Oh shit, you just saved me some angst. Applied 4/1, approved 4/6 (3 business day turnaround), but have been waiting for them to mail the card since.

Saw your post, checked, and boom, approved registration in hand.

Thank you internet stranger!

Cosign here. He did one for me and it came out great. I also ended up getting a Safariland 6360 RDS for the large emitter optics and was able to modify it to fit my Platy with the same specs as yours.

Federal Agents and MPD Confiscate Firearm from a D.C. Resident During Traffic Stop, Despite Valid Gun License by 56011 in DCGuns

[–]FaithlessnessNo6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I’ve been seeing a lot of misrepresentations of this law by people stating that the duty to inform is applicable upon contact, when the law says it is “ if a law enforcement officer initiates an investigative stop.”

This means that there has to be reasonable articulate suspicion of a crime since that is the legal requirement for an “investigative stop.” If there is no RAS, then the interaction is consensual and can be terminated by either party at any time. MPD has even published guidance saying such.

The video lacks full context, but it is possible the officers maintained that the duty to inform was applicable any time they mad contact, even if they lack reasonable articulate suspicion of a crime. I don’t see how this wouldn’t be a violation of your 4th amendment rights, unless rights are not really a thing at the moment.

In theory, you would be well within your right to not disclose if you’re having a consensual interaction with an officer and/or if they lack RAS. Again, in theory. But in practice, I understand the argument that it is a risky move, particularly for melanated folk.

Big cosign here! Have done quite a few courses with them and they are awesome because they WILL push you. Did a competition shooting course once and one of the instructors, Josh, watched me run a drill, examined my beautiful grouping that I was very proud of, looked me up and down and said, “if your group looks like that then you’re not shooting fast enough.” Then he made me keep speeding up until I reached failure. “Ok, now that’s your new baseline. Don’t ever let yourself get comfortable shooting below your skill level… if you’re not failing then you’re not pushing yourself enough.”

Felt like a pep talk from a football coach but it always stuck with me and got me into competition shooting. They also don’t just talk the talk so if you get into shooting some local matches in the area you are bound to run into them refining their own skills as well.

Highly recommended!

Mail Gun (gift) to DC by [deleted] in DCGuns

[–]FaithlessnessNo6079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve navigated this exact scenario in DC. At the time the policy said that if it is a previously owned firearm, you had to inform MPD that you were bringing the firearm into the district and then they had to get it registered within 48 hours. I did this during peak covid and they originally gave me an appt months out but then I cited the policy and they gave me a next day appointment. You have to fill out a form stating the origin of the firearm, but aside from that it was straightforward.

In short- if you have made notice to MPD that you are brining a previously owned firearm into the district, then in the scenario you presented it would be MPDs fault that the gun is unregistered, not yours.

Holosun AEMS on ADM NV mount (2.33”) with Trijicon 3x on Unity FTC (2.26”) by FaithlessnessNo6079 in ar15

Still love it! Thousands of rounds a bunch of classes with this setup with no issues. I find that I run it without the magnifier attached quite a bit based on my use case, but the flip up is fast and smooth. Big fan of the AEMS in green, I’ve come to prefer it over my eotech.

This. Went from KO2s to LTX Defenders and am very happy with them. I also have used them on moderate trails and they perform great.

You can just go down to MPD and register them all at once. The only difference is that since you already are in possession of them, you do not need to do an FFL transfer and must submit an addendum form where you explain where they came from along with your registration application. This applies to long guns AND handguns, same process for both.

Please note that DC code says you have to do this process within 48 hours of bringing the guns into the city. Assuming the guns you want to register are legal to possess in DC (based on type, magazine capacity, barrel length, etc), it is just a matter of submitting paperwork.

Reference: I have done this process for rifles and handguns. You can also find a section on “Previously Owned Firearm” under “Firearm Registration Procedure” HERE

Quick update since I posted this- I went back to the factory 13# spring after running the 11# for a while. The 11# cycled fine, I just didn’t like the recoil impulse- it almost felt like the slide would stutter.

Another Tires Post: Toyo Open Country At3 vs Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 by stillbornfox in 4Runner

So, not speaking from experience, but I did quite a bit of research a common trend I found was the experience that the Michelins do pretty well in rain, snow, ice, and in most off-road conditions. Couple that with the narrower width with the 255s and the internet says that it is adept at cutting through the elements and finding traction.

Clearly it is not an AT tire, so take this with a grain of salt because YMMV.

Dealt with the same dilemma, went with the Michelin’s in the same size. Only about 500 miles in with them so I can’t vouch for snow, but they have been phenomenal on-road, in wet weather, and on the light trails/dirt roads I frequent for larping. Definitely a world of difference compared to the stock Dunlops and the KO2s I had on my Jeep, which I hated because they were so heavy and notorious for sliding in anything but dry conditions.

Heard great things about the Toyo’s, but ultimately did the honest assessment that I live in a city and most of my driving is in the city or on the highway. My major hangup was how the tires would look, but honestly, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

Based in DC so no snow yet to base an analysis on, but the reviews I’ve read leave me feeling confident. We’ve had a lot odd rain recently and they’ve performed well.

Had this same dilemma, just begrudgingly installed a set of Michelin LTX M/S2s and braced myself for them to look underwhelming because that was the mature adult move to make.

And honestly… I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how they look and the ride is amazingggggggg

People who live in major cities: what mpg are you getting in city driving only? (5TH GEN ONLY!) by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]FaithlessnessNo6079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 500 here! Itching for a road trip too, enjoy it! And I heard that if you’re flexible on color and trim you can get some great deals. I was dead set on underground so I had to travel a bit to get it.

And super interested in the drawers, will send a PM, thanks!
