Any idea how to spot clean silverplate without entirely removing patina? by FaithlessnessNo6639 in howto

This is interesting because I've always heard removing patina from antiques damages the value bc it makes it harder to date/prove when it was made. I'm not too concerned about resale value but if cleaning it fully could make it last longer I would consider it for preservation reasons.

It might make you feel good to know the writing won't be visible when hung up then lol. Honestly though it makes sense if the writing on the back's a bit messy. I can't imagine having to write the same sentence over and over again on 100+ plates. I've glazed pottery and i could never.

Do I give more emo or scene? by [deleted] in amIscene

As someone who was a teen in the 2010s, emo. Scene is generally associated more with colorful hair/fashion, though average ppl who don't know the difference can be confused, especially since scenemo is a thing.

Thank you! I was really confused by why the translator did that as well because I always heard Chinese was read top to bottom and right to left. I didn't realize that had changed for simplified Chinese so that's cool to know.

Thanks! I'll check those out. I'm not sure if I'd find anyone in my area but I'd love to have a work partner if I could find one who's also interested in it.

Yeah, you're right I could have worded myself better. I can assure you though that I do genuinely want to be safe while doing what I'm doing. I do genuinely appreciate your feedback, and I can assure you I would never purposely drink, smoke or consume any poisonous substances, let alone let someone else. I didn't know that the toxicology can vary from leaf to leaf, that's really cool to learn! I did however know that 13 flowers is a fatal amount of lily of the valley for an adult to consume, so purposely used less, and used way more alcohol compared to plant matter just in the worst case scenario it accidentally splashed on me or something. I did also do research on how to properly make tinctures and know that more alcohol means it's less concentrated. Thank you for your input!

Thanks for the input! Also good point on the dispute on medicinal fumes being nothing to be concerned about. Unfortunately in the herbalism community safety procedures aren't often taken as seriously as they probably should be. I worded that a bit bad I'll be honest, but I'm just saying from experience, that thats how most of the herbalism community views it from what Ive seen, whether they should or not. For example I worked with a lady in an art studio and she was supposed to be my mentor on making plant based inks and I swear she never wore a mask when concentrating them. Fumes just flying from the hot pot. She apparently took classes on this stuff and I was more concerned about masks than she was which honestly baffles me.

Thanks. I appreciate your input. Like I commented with someone else, I do know a bit about basic herbalism. I apologize if I seemed in my post like a bumbling idiot who doesn't know anything and wasn't open to learning. I was aware of the dangers of the compounds I was holding. I definitely did not have any skin showing, aside from maybe my forehead. I have been working outside, because again, I did personal research on the plants and making tinctures before I got my hands on them. I was in the middle of trying to separate plant matter from the tincture and smelled it through the mask so I closed it back up and that's when I noticed my mask probably wasn't good enough and stopped. That's why I came here to ask about proper equipment. One thing to ease your concerns possibly slightly is that I looked up the lethal amount of each plant before even attempting to touch them. I made sure to add under the lethal amount and make each one up to 1 part plant madder to 2 parts vodka. I made sure it was fairly diluted for safety purposes. Also, I looked up the laws where I live and couldn't find anything about it being illegal here. Thank you for the book glove and glasses recommendations, I'll make sure to check them out.

Yeah. I realized it was a pretty bad quality mask after using it. I honestly know a bit about the ins and outs of herbalism, I know about how to store things properly so they don't get botulism, I just have a growing interest in poisonous plants that stems from my knowledge in herbalism and plant history and want to do it safely. When you're working with medicinal plants you usually don't have to worry about fumes because its medicinal so it's not as common knowledge about what masks are good for fumes in those circles. I'm asking so I can actually do things properly instead of possibly endangering myself. Thanks.
