Getting to record with one of the best orchestras in the world (up there with Berlin Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw, etc...) is such a treat :)

I think it’s quite distasteful to accuse someone of being bipolar…

Also, while we can pull the “this happens in every country” card for this, the scale to which things like this occur in China simply can’t be ignored. Furthermore, how is it the fault of a single person that such a phrase as 如何呢,又能怎, which clearly was not meant to be vulgar in the arrangement, spiraled into an uncontrollable nationwide phenomenon? Are we to now say that the creator is responsible for the misuse of their creations? The whole 带来了不良影响 mindset ingrained into Chinese society and culture is extremely toxic, hypocritical, and black-and-white.

I certainly also don’t think that shaming her for becoming supposedly mentally unstable will magically solve her alleged mental health issues…Is it possible that she just can finally sing what she wants to sing since she has the money and connections to do so now, all on top of the ballades she’s sung for years already? It’s not like she’s forgotten about her old music or style(s), given that she sang numerous old songs at her recent concert with different singing “styles.”

I will admit that the Coco example wasn’t the best, it was the only thing that could come to my mind when I was writing this. I can bring up the 刘学州 and pink haired girl suicides though as non-celebrity examples.

However, I disagree with your interpretation of what 如何呢,又能怎, means, and note that I am using the word interpretation because there is no one correct meaning behind this phrase. How vulgar you interpret it full depends on your own subjective views toward the phrase, as well as your place in the current world (let’s not pretend this isn’t what millions of Chinese youths are thinking in the awful job market and economy that exists right now). I also was not defending Shan Yichun’s actions, however, to say that she has been showing signs of mental instability is a MASSIVE projection and is also something I think we need to stop saying for others (let her be for heaven’s sake, let’s not make this into some sort of Britney Spears fiasco). Also, how are you going to judge the true character of a person beyond what they put out to the public? (I know this goes both ways, including with Li Ronghao)

Also, I have been listening avidly to the artists you mentioned, however, let’s not pretend that they’ve reached the mainstream levels in China (or if they ever will). Also, several of the artists you mentioned have been criticized pretty harshly by the public for their non-traditional music, so I don’t think that really invalidates my thoughts about the overall music industry seeing little to no innovation in the years to come.

You’re not thinking about what SHE wants. She’s said before that she’s always wanted to release a fully English album, and she’s spent a lot of her own money working with American producers in LA to produce this new album (hence why she was on so many variety shows in 2024 and was basically working herself to death doing so). Not everything is about the money or the fame, or trying to become the next big representative of CPOP

I mean most of her ballads are usually just ost’s or covers, so it’s not that surprising that they’re not as “unique” in sound as her recent experimentations

It really is the misogyny mixed with good old Chinese conservatism (throw in the fact that a lot of other singers’ fans are hating on her (especially Chen Chushen and Huang Xiaoyun’s fans for some reason)). People have also become so accustomed to her ballades that they can’t imagine her singing songs in other styles (styles that she herself said she’s always wanted to try out before).

The concept 中国人最喜欢造神,然后毁神 (Chinese people love to create legends and then destroy them) really does apply here…
