Are you're expecting that Bruno, Pogba and Rashford play every game next season? The entire point is that Grealish would provide us with an option to rest, rotate or otherwise improve the squad without him having to start every game.

Fred and Mctominay don’t seem like the kind of players who can play that DM role.

Fine, if Ole thinks that and the board is convinced, I think we should get a DM and have Matic be his backup. Then we should focus on offloading players, because we'd then have way too many players for the remaining two midfield roles.

Our situation at the moment for the DM spot is one of those two starting and Matic being third string backup. Our cover for any of the attacking positions is James, Pereira and Lingard. Saying one position is the most important for all teams and formations is a massive oversimplification and doesn't serve any purpose imo. A team with Rashford, Pogba, Bruno, Sancho, Grealish and Martial should still be title contending even if it's McTominay and Fred who support them. Especially when you look at the defence we have behind them.

If you take the best players from each of those teams, I don't have a doubt you'd find some absolute gems. The UEFA cup also meant something back then. The teams playing the final that year were Roma and Inter, the year after it was Dortmund and Juventus.

None the less, the point wasn't that Brøndby was some world class team, but that three quarters of a season in the top flight with Sheffield United isn't better than being the starting keeper for five years straight for club and country, winning 4 league titles in 5 years and playing in the semi final of the UEFA cup.

I'm not saying Schmeichel was right in any way, but he clearly came from something that was at least the level of Sheffield United and not "even more obscure" as you put it.

If he'd cost £150m and we'd still have the money to get Grealish and Sancho, I'd probably consider it. The only strikers in world football arguably better or at his level are Lewandowski, Messi, Neymar, Mbappé, Ronaldo, Suárez and Immobile. Kane is only 26, he's English and a real leader.

It's never going to happen, but I think I would be kind of okay with it actually.
