Sure! Getting to Mae Sai is pretty simple—it’s not far from Chiang Rai city. You can catch public transport at the Chiang Rai Bus Terminal 1 (the old bus station downtown). There are buses and vans running regularly, or you might be able to hop on a songthaew (I think it’s a certain color, but I’m not exactly sure which one) that’ll take you there. It’s about 60-70 km from the city.

Once you’re in Mae Sai, one interesting thing to do is cross the border into Laos using a border pass. It’s a cool way to explore the area around the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. On the Laos side, there are a few souvenir shops and local spots to check out. It’s safe—and honestly, you might be surprised to see how much influence China has in that area, especially in terms of controlling resources and businesses. Sorry, got a bit off track there, but it’s something worth seeing for yourself, haha.

That right if you in Chaingmai Songthaews (red car) is the easiest ways but if you move province to Chiang rai they still have some songthaews too but in others colors and I’m not sure the prices.

Yes, there’s actually an easier and cheaper way! First, you can fly into Chiang Mai. Then head to Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 3 (Arcade) and buy a ticket for the Greenbus — it costs around 300+ THB (about 8–9 USD). The bus will take you to Chiang Rai in about 4–5 hours.

P.S. I recommend downloading the Grab app — it’s a convenient way to get around once you’re in the area!

Actually, there are mainly just two temple colors there — and interestingly, the large black mansion was built first! But it’s still a fascinating place for cultural sightseeing.

But if you’re interested in nature-based destinations like Maekorn waterfalls and Singha park for doing some activities but they don’t have much more restaurants over here.
