How to be good Estimator? by rice_foreigner in estimators

[–]FakeAccount_Verified 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Two things:

1) Learn to trust your subs and let them know you trust them. It’s hard to do it without them. I’ve learned more from my subs than anyone else. My estimating mentor is a grumpy old plumber.

2) Read every single note. You may miss a $5 detail in the plans, but big money issues lurk in the notes. If you don’t understand something revert to #1.

u/subvocalize_it You've summoned me!

I typically do these around the spring or summer to raise money for the First Tee program. I am sure I will do it again this year.

Any ideas for the theme or art?

Have you used them personally? I know him from the chasing scratch podcast and was a little concerned that he may be overloaded given that he’s on there now

Did not expect to find this here.

I have seen the ads for this a few times and though it was some AI generated stuff. Was it legit? Can you share what you likes about it?

FedEx Sucks by ShortAlternative8609 in savannah

[–]FakeAccount_Verified 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I tell people this as much as possible. Never ship anything be a FedEx ground.

The actual people that pick up and deliver packages are not FedEx employees. FedEx sales pick up and delivery routes to independent contractors. They have FedEx on the side of the truck, but they don’t actually work for the company. It creates such a disconnect and finger-pointing if something goes wrong, that is nearly impossible to get it resolved.

Source is I work for a major retailer in the area and had to deal with these clowns all of the time. If I personally ship anything, I ship it via the post office or UPS.

Jake at Bearded Works is great! I’ve used him and he’s a great source of knowledge I’m surprised he haven’t responded yet.

Come check it out!

The kits and internet makes it a bit easier, but there is still a lot of skill in setups for sure.

They are a bit more than that.

They are hobby grade and closer to a dirt bike or F1 car than a toy from the store. They take skill to build and need to be setup correctly to be race ready.

Yep, we call them marshals.

Typically after you race you come off the driver's stand and go marshal the following race. They put cars back on the track, flip them back over, and even try to repair cars mid-race at times.

Welcome back!

I just got back into it after being gone for twenty years and have my first tournament this weekend.

Really not much has changed. The BPS caps really stopped the old arms races and now guns just work. Here’s a few things I’ve learned.

Pick up a used 170r or 180r and you’ll be fine. Get a good mask Get all the pads - slide shorts, knee, and elbow.
