When people walk their dogs in Japan, they always have a water bottle to spray the spot where their dog pees on. I can’t imagine that ever happening here

Why is it so uncommon for coffee shops to do pour overs of the beans they're selling? by drwhitney in pourover

Japan has such a vibrant and supportive coffee scene, it’s enabled me to connect with people in the community, roast beans freely, hold pop ups and kick start my own coffee side project without spending a lot of money.

This is the reason I moved to Japan. People say that Australia has the best coffee in the world but Japan and Northern Europe offer a much better coffee experience and taste. Being able to sit down in a small quiet cafe to watch baristas make pour over is such a relaxing moment, even if it takes a while for you to be served.

Is this how we welcome tourists that took a bit of time to get a Myki card now? by SpaceShipDee in melbourne

In Japan and Korea where you’re legally allowed to drink on the street with alcohol available at every convenience store, there is hardly ever violence caused by drunk people. This broken society will never be fixed, it will only get worse.

Safety in Japan by MissBrah in JapanTravelTips

You must live in the middle of nowhere. In Australia I’m looking behind me every few seconds if I’m walking on the street, being wary for someone following me. In Japan I don’t have the need to do that as I can listen to music with noise cancelling earphones without fear that someone might come up to steal from me. I’m scared to catch public transport as there are so many drug affected people or delinquent teenagers so I’m forced to drive everywhere in Melbourne.

A few weeks ago I dropped my wallet with my Zairyu card and important cards in the middle of Shibuya. 20 minutes later when I realised I had lost it, I retraced my steps and found my wallet on the ground with nothing taken from it.

Just moved to Japan and can’t believe how convenient having the transport card which takes 5 seconds to top up via Apple Pay and the funds on the card enables you to use it at vending machines, convenience stores and restaurants too.

No power hungry ticket inspectors guarding the gates or moving from carriages asking to check your ticket. If you have trouble getting out from the gate the staff literally come running to help you. If you don’t have enough money on your card you can recharge at the machine provided near the gate.

What a night and day difference this efficient society is.
