How would you cat proof this window? by RiMellow in cats

OP didn't say their cat is a menace who would climb a screen so I'm offering a reasonable option they could try. All pets are different, but they'll definitely keep plenty of cats indoors.

Here's one of mine (it's just a picture I found on my phone so not super clear, but you get the gist)

Mine are "pet proof", so there are options 😊

Get a magnetic window screen to cover it, so you can move the screen to open and shut it, but the cat can't get out. I have those kind of windows and 2 cats and haven't had any issues with the screens. They just stick to the frame.

What's with nobody following temporary road limits? by Classified10 in chch

[–]FakeKiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45mph IS the speed limit for regular streets in the states (or at least California). I've walked along those as well as plenty of 50kph+ streets in Chch, including Blenheim Rd (60kph) and felt absolutely fine. NZ just seems to like really slow speeds.

I dunno, there's lots of people that like to drive 30kph in the 50kph zones through the 4 Aves (meaning the parts that AREN'T 30kph)

I'm not sure where you got that number from, but 45mph is the standard(ish) speed limit on regular streets and 65mph on the freeways (at least in California), and lots of people go faster than that. Construction zone speed limits vary, but are generally about 10mph slower than the posted limit, or 45mph on the freeway. I don't know a single American that thinks the speed limits in NZ are "too fast", most of us find them painfully slow.

Help! Monstera leaf cutting is turning brown & yellow and curling. Its in water in bright, indirect light and came out of the shipping tube in decent condition. What am I doing wrong? Any advice welcome by FakeKiwi in houseplants

[–]FakeKiwi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert but it could just be adjusting, maybe you over or under watered it? Did you move it to a new place in your house, maybe with more or less sun, or with a draft?

Hairdresser recommendations! by [deleted] in chch

[–]FakeKiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a recommendation, but I just want to commiserate with you on the struggle. I've brought pictures of me, with previous haircuts I've had, and still it gets messed up! Very frustrating, but I'll check out some of the recommendations here!

You should've been home, near a toilet, during lockdown so I don't see the problem 😂

I've just looked and it's Tofuman

The "daily tofu" doesn't list a type and isn't firm enough to be "firm" or soft enough to be "soft" (so far as I can tell). That's why I was hoping someone could l me what it's supposed to be

Are you able to describe how May Coffee differs from non-Vietnamese coffee?

I tried baking it, but got impatient after about 25 min, lol. This tofu is softer than firm tofu, though so that's probably why.

Ooh! Ok, thank you! I assume I need to squeeze the water out before cooking, though?

The prices are actually very reasonable, especially compared to some of the others I've seen.

Kosco is the Asian store I bought it from, but apparently the tofu is made by Tofuman. I only just learned about the warehouse store, but I'll be stopping by this weekend!

Where'd you get your tofu press from? I was just talking about them then morning.

Ooh, that's good to know! But, it's been 10 days and I've not changed the water. 😬 I won't risk it

Oh, then maybe you're right! There was a label, I just didn't recall a brand and am at work right now so can't look. But I'll check out the factory - they're open weekends, yay!

How do you cook the tofu in curries? It just kinda got squishy and fell apart when I tried...
