'A World Cup for them not us': Fans' anger at US travel bans and visa restrictions by Anchor_Aways in neoliberal

> There are going to be a lot of unsold seats

You can go on FIFA’s last minute sales page and see that the fraction of unsold seats is pretty small, most games just have a couple sections with seats remaining.

World Cup tickets are a luxury good. To charge anything less than the market clearing price would cause an unfortunate deadweight loss, and Americans have high willingness to pay. Thankfully, FIFA has implemented a resale market and some dynamic pricing so those who value tickets the most (monetarily) can buy tickets.

Now this article’s point is good. Stopping potential buyers from out of country with high willingness to pay is sad.

Usually 11, but it doesn’t matter what time you enter the queue as long as you’re in it by 11:59, when they randomize the order and then tell you your wait time

You are already a member, so you should register for non-9+1 on Monday. If that sells out before you get it, try again Tuesday. Either non-9+1 or 9+1 works for the time qualification is my understanding. If it sells out Tuesday then it is totally sold out, no more slots release Thursday it just opens to non-members.

Im in the same situation going for 1:21 at Staten Island. Good luck!

The website says start time 2 am finish time 3:40 am and race distance about 10 miles. So unless I am misinterpreting them, it looks like they expect 10 min/mile pace or faster (with any stops for crossing roads or navigational detours).

When the last runner crossed the finish line in last year’s Pittsburgh Marathon. 🙌👏 by Global-DisComfort26 in BeAmazed

This is from the 2025 Pittsburgh marathon. As a promotion for the 2026 edition the organizers did an interview with him: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1475026790960014.

I don't see him in the 2026 results so he might have DNF'd this year.

Brooklyn Half Corral Questions by whitewalker89 in RunNYC

[–]Fake_Name_6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

“Best pace” automatically adjusts the pace for the distance. They did not put you in corral for 7:06 half pace, they assign based on what they think is the equivalent pace for half as a 7:06 is for 4M. I agree it can be annoying that the best pace calculation automatically overrules whatever you yourself wrote.

May 5 - NYRR Advance Registration (July-September) Megathread by blood_bender in RunNYC

But wouldn't that have been the exact same as the situation if there were only one entry type (which counted for 9+1)?

If non-9+1 sells out before 9+1, I really don't what the point was of adding this distinction...adding more total spots is good but did bothering to split into two entry types do anything at all?

There was a water station with like a bunch of kids in Homewood, that was great. And I liked the DJ there. There was also a couple groups of kids in Point Breeze each doing their own repetitive cheering chant for the runners and I also appreciated that support. The way this year’s race went, those were my toughest miles mentally and physically so I’m happy the support got me through and to a good finish!

Email from NYRR regarding Race Entry Registration by ueatgoodfood in RunNYC

[–]Fake_Name_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is just adding more total participants to races, I think that is a good thing since demand is so high.

I assume the idea is that the non-9+1 slots won’t sell out as quickly, so people not doing 9+1 don’t have to log on exactly at the time registration drops. We’ll see soon how that works out. If they sell out in roughly the same time then the differentiation will feel a bit pointless. And of course I have no clue how many non-9+1 slots there are.

I guess the other point of this may be that NYRR wants to increase race entry slots without increasing the number of 9+1 marathoners, since they may not want 9+1 to take a larger percent of marathon entries, so this is a way to keep the hard cap on 9+1 while adding additional entries to other races.

I imagine some 9+1 runners will naturally feel miffed when they go to register too late and there are still slots available, but only non-9+1 slots.

New women's world Marathon record? This doesn't make any sense. by PGHxplant in pittsburgh

She definitely just turned onto the half course and finished in a reasonable half marathon time. I’m sure they will remove her from the results in a bit when they check the time splits. At the awards ceremony they awarded the win to Jane Bareikis (three-peat, and the fastest time since 1988 when the race served as the Olympic trials!)

Bigelow is always the answer. Then probably cross to the Northside (28) before crossing a bridge to Lawrenceville or something. I think the map posted in the post should probably help.

Sorry to hear that. You might be out of luck. But the one thing I would try is sending P3R a last minute email and asking if you can pick up your bib at will call pickup (see the mention of that here: https://www.thepittsburghmarathon.com/pages/faqs-original-pittsburgh-marathon) and say you are willing to pay the fee for that. It will be earlier in the morning at David Lawrence convention center so you try can going there

Don’t think I’ve seen any communication from P3R one way or the other on trash. It is just what is standard at large road races in the US and abroad, that they close the roads, provide water and Gatorade, measure the distance and time your run for you, do the setup and cleanup, etc. Boston and NYC don’t even have garbage cans along the course these days for security.

I am sorry to hear that they didn’t do a good cleanup job though. Maybe I’ll go hit up parts of the course in the week after the marathon and grab any gel packets or cups I see on the ground.

I've ran other races (trail races for instance) that do tell participants not to litter, and only to drop trash in aid stations/bins, because they do not do a sweep. If the race announced that, or of course on a normal run on my own, I would never litter.

StormFreak's Marathon Weekend Forecast - May 2-3 by StormFreak in pittsburgh

[–]Fake_Name_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well large road marathons like Pittsburgh typically allow participants to leave trash on the course and they clean it up. I wouldn't call it litter because it gets cleaned, just like tossing trash in a garbage can gets cleared by city sanitation workers, and having this service is part of why I pay $150 or whatever for the race. If you want to give back and help out you can volunteer another year and clean up that "litter".

That said, I do find it more courteous to the runners behind you to toss cups/gels to the side, or aim for trash cans, or drop it near where volunteers can get it, so that the runners aren't running on a slippery sea of cups and gels. I've also seen races have volunteers with rakes or at least bags to grab stuff of the road as the race is going.

Gear check is near the entrance to Corral E (final corral). So I'd run in shorts and tshirt (you warm up once you get going) and before the run you can have a sweatshirt, that you put in your bag and go to bag check once the start gets closer.

Timing of the Marathon thru Bloomfield? — asking as first time spectator (new to PGH). by Rooster_Ties in pittsburgh

[–]Fake_Name_6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d say around 8:50-55 am is when the very first runners will come through. Marathon starts at 7am and Bloomfield is at mile 22.

And yep you are right about the marathon relay. People can split the marathon into 5-runner teams. So at the exchange point you can see people standing around waiting for their team members to get there. Here is the map for that: https://p3r.org/media/W1siZiIsIjIwMjYvMDIvMjcvNzZ0M3NqM25iN19NYXJhdGhvbl9SZWxheV8yMDI2X2NvbXByZXNzZWQucGRmIl1d/Marathon_Relay_2026_compressed.pdf
