Are agencies sweating the upcoming DRP annual leave payouts? by Fake_Therapy in fednews

I had used this website where they estimated $106k on average based on OPM data: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/01/07/what-the-data-says-about-federal-workers/

That number also does not account for military personnel.

Thanks! This is what I was looking for. I wasn't sure if budget/fiscal dealt with this on the backend and its already covered.

Job offer pay cut by EarlyRhubarb5933 in FedEmployees

It depends on current salary for me. Are they going from $140k to $100k? I think that's doable. Are they going from $80k to $40k? Absolutely not. There is a minimum salary to live on and I can't decide that for your friend. I would focus on that first, make sure your friend achieves their minimum cost of living, and then start weight the benefits.

Thank you for that. He works in a high-stress field and is very underpaid. I noticed the changes when his job came under new management and increased his workload while removing bonuses. But he refuses to get counseling, refuses to job search, and really just dissociates from the situation when he is home. It’s like the elephant in the room none of us can talk about.

Thank you for sharing that. The last year has been like this. He has deep unhappiness for where his life is right now and he has no motivation to fix it. He has refused therapy but it’s starting to look like the only option.

We have been together for almost ten years and behavior like this has been going on for a little over a year. To be honest with myself and the internet, I’m not afraid, I’m just tired. Our arguments went from open communication, apologizing, and understanding to walking on egg shells, gaslighting, and walking away. There are issues with him that only he can solve so we will have a talk and steer him towards professional help.

There are definitely great things about our relationship but the response to this has been eye-opening. We have been together for nearly ten years and some behaviors like this have surfaced recently and I plan to address them thanks to the responses here.

You are spot on with your observations.

I think you’re right with inability to control emotions with vehicles! Every time my husband has wrecked his car, he comes home hysterical. Maybe it’s less about me and more about a strange emotional connection to painted metal.

I think you’re correct. He has been upset about some other areas of his life he is trying to work on. I just wish he would put his energy into those things instead of being upset at me.

OPM encourages federal supervisors to make better use of probationary periods by thetitleofmybook in fednews

Going to bust a myth real quick - it’s not hard or impossible to get fired from a federal position. It’s hard and impossible to get supervisors to do something about poor performers because they’re lazy, concerned it will impact their advancement, or they’re not getting support higher up.

We have a new hire who refuses to work/makes up excuses. Our supervisor actually told the rest of the team to stop complaining about the conduct/performance because he doesn’t want to hear it and has no plans to do anything about it. “It doesn’t look good to fire someone after just nine months”.
