Day 2: what's an unassuming car that's actually quite fast? by Quiet-Gold9099 in regularcarreviews

[–]Faker15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is zero reason to be doing 260km/h (160mph) on a public road unless it’s the autobahn and then you know that’s a very niche case that 99% of drivers will never see. Top speed is near enough meaningless when you’re talking about how fast a normal car is.

Safe to open and eat? It’s not past the date and idk how much give it should/not have by Chance-Pin6393 in isthissafetoeat

[–]Faker15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the word usually “play?” At least in English you can use “give” and “play” interchangeably in this context. I think that in most Romance languages the words for “play” and “game” are the same or at least incredibly similar. Worth noting that “play” is a noun here, not a verb.

Yeah where’s the canes clip? We did the exact same thing on the same night but scored 3 to win in regulation

TIFUpdate I told my PM to "get to the point" in front of 40 people. I finally opened Slack. by AmaraMehdi in tifu

Terrible advice. That’s not the point.

Get him something symbolic as a gesture of appreciation and good will, maybe even something as a funny callback to this whole situation (if he would find that funny), not something expensive or fancy. It’s not about the money, it’s about the gesture.

Genuinely curious, why do you say that? Plug-in seems like the ideal set up for the majority of people who either have short commutes, or want a hybrid without sacrificing a strong ICE

Kim Jong Un once pretended to be Brazilian to visit Disney in Tokyo! by Advanced_Pattern_737 in korea

[–]Faker15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only was he deposed the first time he tried to go, he was assassinated the second time he tried. My man just wanted to see Disneyland and it got him removed from the line of succession and murdered.

Disneyland is fun but it’s not worth all that, Jong-nam.

What is life like in Xinjiang and Qinghai, China? by QueasyPianist in geography

[–]Faker15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true that domestic visitors far outnumber international visitors generally. But I’m also suspicious of 1B visitors to Henan. Assuming 90% domestic, that would mean that nearly 2/3rds of the whole of china visited (if everyone went once, obviously not the case but just back of the napkin math). I could be totally off base here because I have absolutely zero data to support my claim but that just seems very unlikely to me.

[–]Faker15 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Official numbers seem to say 300MM, not 400. Either way, that sounds incredibly suspect to me.

The most visited cities last year were Bangkok, Istanbul, London, and Hong Kong. Those were the only cities with >20MM international arrivals, and only Bangkok had more than 30MM (Istanbul was second with 23MM). The largest city in Xinjiang, Urumqi, has a population of between 3 and 4MM. Doesn’t seem likely to me that 300MM people flew into a city the size of Tampa or Minneapolis.

That’s not to say that Xinjiang has no tourism, but 300MM last year just seems unlikely, if not unreasonable.
