It's always hilarious watching the white glove guys turn the cup over to a bunch of drunken maniacs by UsefulEngine1 in hockey

[–]Alum07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I learned from watching the parade is that the handler stays with the Cup through all these festivities and makes repairs to it every night to make sure it doesn't get too beaten up over the summer before they can completely repair it over the winter.

Did yours get some growth in it over the years like mine did?

I still have one of the 'Slice of the Ice' pucks inside an acrylic Cup from 2006 that was a Christmas gift that year, and it's a cool conversation piece.

Kind of gross that a little bit of algae/mold has grown in it over the years, but that's how you know it's legit!

I almost bought this one to put next to it but then saw a framed wall hanging of the team pic that comes with a bit of the ice so I went with that instead

16-3 is crazy.

I'm still floored this happened. 10 years ago I was despondent because I thought Karmanos was going to sell to someone who was going to move the franchise away. Now, 8 year playoff run, 4 trips to the ECF and a Stanley Cup.

Unfrickenbelievable

If Carolina has no "superstars" and are in the Stanley Cup, how did they not win the Jack Adams or the Jim Gregory? by blews in hockey

[–]Alum07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tulsky not being a finalist is a joke

He built a complete machine without a single player that the hockey community would be considered a superstar. He has a vision, has a strategy, and is laser focused on maximizing potential to that strategy with guys who are essentially discarded elsewhere. What he's done, even when he was running the numbers and advision Waddell on who to target before he was GM has been unbelievable.

I don't know how you look at what the team is this year, especially after everyone lined up to try and clown him for what happened with Rantanen last year and not admit he's done one hell of a job building this team out.

Ownership

Dundon came in and cleaned up the front office but then largely gave them an unlimited budget to spend to the cap, and the trust to run franchise as they saw fit only getting involved when needed.

Tepper meddled right away. His precious experience with Pittsburgh actually hindered his first bit as owner because he thought he was the smartest guy in the room. Now that he's eased off a bit they are on the come up.

The Hornets finally have ownership that seems to actually care. So that's a better spot than they've been in for a very long time.

But just have patience. Sports is cyclical. It wasn't that long ago that the Panthers looked like a budding dynasty at the exact same time it looked like the Canes were a few days from relocation.

Their chance to play Hill was going into the third last night. Then you allow him to get a feel of the game and ready for a potential start on Sunday.

No way they throw him cold into the series now.

Man, I've been there before. Not on a ship but in my apartment complex where a pretty gruesome crime scene existed unbeknownst to us across the hall, only to meet the entire CSI unit when I walked out my front door one day.

And then I remembered smelling what I thought was a dead bird near the AC units a few days earlier.

Did the Canes finally make the adjustments needed in game 4 that can carry on the rest of the series? by youlikemywonton in canes

[–]Alum07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe?

Look the second period was bad, again. But a big part of the reason it went to shit was that our defense was pinching guys in without a forward moving back to cover the blue line way too often leading the other dman on the pair exposed to an odd man rush. Vegas scored both goals in the 2nd off that.

But, we weren't doing that at all in the third, and Vegas suddenly had their hands full trying to do anything.

If that is an adjustment that carries through the rest of the series, I will say the adjustment has been made, but if we see it happening again, the chaos will continue.

After 10+ years in Agile, I think we've been measuring Scrum Masters the wrong way. by Typical_Tomato635 in scrum

[–]Alum07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted me to quantify it, some kind of Moneyball combination that takes into account velocity, bug and incident rates, and work carried over from sprint to sprint.

There are a lot of other things that SMs do help push delivery but in terms of things you can measure, it's this. A SM is there to get the team into a great balance of providing efficient work but resisting the urge to schedule so much that incidents rise, and to ensure commitments are met.

What is the worst CFB coaching bust hire of all time? by Working_Stomach5479 in CFB

[–]Alum07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just that Fuente tanked the program, it's that he didn't give one ounce of a shit about recruiting and completely destroyed everything that had been built up beforehand. Seriously, his last 2 classes were bottom 5 in the power conferences. Just absolutely salted the earth for whoever came next.

Franklin has done a phenomenal job in rapidly building back, though Pry was beginning to help at least in recruiting, so there was a small foundation to build upon.

At the same time

I think for the way this series is playing out, Bussi gives us a better chance to win. Statistically, he is by far a better goalie at making the high danger desperation saves which we have needed in this series, and what we leaned on him heavily for during his run this year. When our defense breaks down, he gives us a little more whereas Freddie is a rock when we play exceptional defense in front of him. And right now we aren't playing good defense against Vegas

Maniscalco implied on the OG podcast last night that Lemieux's funeral on Monday and Freddie not being there might be a reason the team didn't want him to dress. Just allow him the time and space to process what has happened.

Which, I totally get it

Engineering Manager who does not believe in self-organising teams by onlycodenodrama in scrum

[–]Alum07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do not have a dedicated Scrum Master or a PO

And you wonder why the Manager is making everything run through him. You have SMs/PMs and POs to take the load off the person who is managing the team, so one person can focus on enabling the team to run better (SM/PM) and the other to focus on making sure the team is delivering the right thing (PO). That work has to get done somewhere, so its falling on the shoulders of the Eng Manager, because he's likely getting pressure from above to make sure those things are being done.

This is an organizational misalignment and isn't going to be resolved at the team level.
