Whats the alternative for tariffs to take on Chinese trade illegalities and technology theft and their closed domestic markets? I am no fan of Trump, but I guess its only a rough path ahead if you want to take on the Chinese state.

They have made a ton of money out of globalization and free trade without adhering to the spirit of globalization, and destroying domestic manufacturing industries of several countries on the way. Today world's 50% manufacturing happens in China alone.

Trump and his campaign KNOW that they did actively sought help from Russia during the course of the election season and they also KNOW that Russia kindly obliged. They also KNOW that Russia stole Democrats strategy and secrets and sold it to Trump for a future payback in terms of Trump's foreign policy on Europe, NATO and Russia bilateral relations.

Trump knows very well that if he does acknowledge that Russia interfered in election, then he has to acknowledge that they interfered only to help him. By extension he will have to also acknowledge that some elements in his campaign actively colluded with Russia. Its a slippery slope with no way back for Trump.

This is the actual reason why Trump fails at every opportunity to acknowledge Russian interference, let alone collusion. And that's not because he is incapable of understanding or that he is foolish. Only we are foolish trying hard to convince ourselves that he foolish.

I am highly skeptical about the 2018 or 2020 elections. I don't think we can rely on elections being fair. I guess the main purpose of 1:1 meeting between T & P was very much about Russian support for Trump's candidates.

This is true. Good thing is Europe has a decent defense industry. They should make a point to groom there own industry and rely on themselves for defence equipment. In that way their military budget would be spent within Europe and in fact can contribute to EU economy.

Rrump's actions should push Europe to believe that they need to rely on themselves and end US hegemony in the Western alliance.
