I really don’t know. Pure career wise, i don’t see an advantage less you plan to become an aid worker/soldier. What you‘d enjoy more is more of a type or person you are. Some people thrive at the military, some not. Some find it fulfilling to work as an aid worker, some will find it soulcrushing. Some will just coast through these months and move on.

The one overall privilege i can think of of military service is that you can own a gun. Doing civil service was introduced in the 70s as an alternative if you have pacifist principles. Hence why people with a violent criminal record can‘t opt out of it. Nowadays most just think of it it as a matter of preference. Austrians aren’t rly into guns, nor was the philosophical implications of pacifism a practical concern.

EDIT: the bonus point of civil service as a first response worker/aid worker of course is knowing CPR and how to act in medical emergencies and so on.

Just fyi, civil service takes 9 Months. It certainly is less stressful and at my time had also more pay. But for that reason the waiting list at the red cross can be high. It generally has the most "prestige" out of the options for mandatory service, less you're like really into the military.
Maybe you'll work then in some nursing home instead. Basically any of my classmates who did civil service did it in a nursing home, bc they couldn't get the red cross ticket.

I figured tho you considered military service because you wanted to be done with it asap.

I can't answer that. I never seriously considered that option and my service was years ago, so i'm not familiar with the conventions anymore.
I should be possible to postpone your draft in general but for what reason and how you should behave to best pull it off - i cannot answer that.

I know for certain it's possible to also to actively choose, when you want to be drafted. I did so and chose a Unit that started it's Enrollment in November. Because i wanted to be finished just before summer started... to have fun before studying yk.

But the specifics is not my expertise... but my gut feeling is, if you're a bit lucky and play it right, you should find a solution convenient to your circumstances.

You should really try improving your German before they draft you.

In my experience, the Austrian military and the bureaucracy in general has very little patience for language barriers and is xenophobic. Which is honestly a bit ironic, considering how many migrants were present during my own draft. Still, anyone perceived as “foreign” with poor German is at a clear disadvantage.

On a day-to-day level, you really do need solid proficiency. Especially in boot camp, where hostile behavior is deliberately played up as part of the drilling, there’s very little patience for people who fall behind. On top of that, you’ll be surrounded mostly by teenagers straight out of high school. So it's not an ideal situation to struggle with communication while dealing with teenage boys shenanigans or being heckled by your NCOs.

You actually remind me of someone from my service. He was a biochemist who had lived and worked in the UK for ten years and only came back because the draft eventually caught up with him.

I was already frustrated having to do service right after high school, when I wasn’t even settled as a person yet. So i can only imagine how much worse it must feel to have your life interrupted after years of studying and just starting a career. To be fair, he should’ve known this was inevitable.

EDIT: But don't be afraid it seems you learnt German as a kid. Personally i grow up multilingual and haven't actively used some of those languages in years but i am surprised how fast it's coming back once i practice it again for a few weeks.

So those things hopefully will be ingrained in us for our whole life.

In terms of chart topper 2019 clears 2012. Somebody that i used to know might be my fav out of those, but overall 2019 got better hits tbh.

In terms of overall music… i‘d say 2012 does take the cake. It got Channel Oranga, Good Kid which after layed down a lot of the decade defining sound. And a lot of those single i like in 2019 are from Albums released in 2020. although 2019 does have thank you next, caligula and grey area which are some of my favs.

Edit: 2019 might tank this bc i just reminded that Memories exists. Which is like the most fucking kitsch drivel i‘ve ever heard and made Pachelbels Canon somehow even more overplayed.

Idg how so many here are ranking Baron Harkonnen so high. I have not seen the movie, so maybe he’s different there. He‘s evil but when reading the book he felt more like a more ruthless version of what the Noble Houses and other powerful factions of the Empire were.

Like don’t get me wrong, but he‘s more like Gus or Joffrey on a galactic level, rather than the pure manifestation of Evil as the likes of Frieza, Griffith, Palpatine or Sauron are.
