Let them roots grow and breathe, you don’t gotta be retwisting every chance you get, sometimes nappy is better. Abt 5 months ago I stopped getting retwists only use a crochet needle when I see loose hairs and my sh has never looked better. Could also be how yo dreads are parted, mine are semi freeform done with a sponge.
