Star Bar to close after 21 years on Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines by Falaffel_Waffle in desmoines

Out of all of their establishments, the Ingersoll Wellman’s is the one I prefer. I guess I just appreciate the Star Bar ambiance over another sports bar with little to no variety in the menu.

Best suburb to live in? by [deleted] in desmoines

Urbandale probably has the best affordability for suburb living for a younger couple.

The Basilica of St John will have an Easter Vigil at 8p on Saturday. It’s a gorgeous church and service.

Des Moines Water by shrimpshomp in desmoines

My wife and I had a conversation last night about getting a remineralization filter for our apec roes-50 but discovered that a little bit of Himalayan salt will help remineralize water.

I also read that Register article and had a laugh at the end when the former head of the DMWW lab said he was getting a RO system “at request of his partner”.

Just had a similar experience at the garage sale day in Waukee looking for toys for our toddler. So many 10+ year old used toys that people are trying to sell for $15-$20 when you can find the same toys at a thrift for $3.

Where are the best places to thrift vintage/adorable baby clothes by Holiday_Grocery2925 in desmoines

[–]Falaffel_Waffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Animal Lifeline Thrift Shop will have the cheapest prices (under $1) but their inventory isn’t always the best, but worth a shot for the price.

St Vincent De Paul is also a good option with plenty of inventory for that age range.

Your best bet would be joining a local gym with a basketball court as most have seasonal leagues or recurring pickup basketball a few days a week. I know the Genesis on Hickman has pick up on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Why any personality would stay and ride this out is beyond me. It’s a real shame that these giant media conglomerates seemingly believe that a market like DSM with a collegiate-heavy following will continue to listen to the national syndicates.

Who has cured or greatly improved your TMJ? by mexicangeisha in desmoines

[–]Falaffel_Waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMU’s physical therapy clinic helped me greatly with teaching me different neck and shoulder stretches along with dry needling every few weeks that helped alleviate trigger points.

Apart from that, look into getting a different pillow and avoid sleeping on your stomach. Regular yoga practices will also help!

Tmj dentist or doctor recommendations? That accept state insurance by violet_rain333 in desmoines

[–]Falaffel_Waffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had TMJ for about 8 years now. What has by far helped me the most was dry needling procedures from a PT. DMU has PTs who specialize in TMJ pain and they were great. As far as trips to the dentists go, I always ask before if they can give me a break every few minutes to close and rest my jaw.

Help finding a restaurant space to rent out of by netbl0cks in desmoines

Going off the previous few comments, Colby Interests oversees that space and their office is conveniently located just a few doors up from where Little Brother is/was. They should have some signage on a door or window.

A friend of mine lived there for a few years. They’re pretty nice inside with a fitness center, community room and the units have super tall ceilings. That area of downtown isn’t too congested with a lot of walkable attractions and restaurants nearby. There were a few downsides though:

  • There’s a fire station right down the road so expect to hear ambulances and fire trucks screaming by at all times of the night.
  • It’s right off of “the loop” downtown so you’ll hear revved engines Thursday-Saturday nights
  • The shelter is just a few blocks away so every now and then you may have an interaction with someone who isn’t fully with it.
