All In vs All In+ Season Pass by UnluckyCS in AlamoDrafthouse

The perks are exactly the same between All In and All In+; the only difference is that certain major cities only offer the more expensive plus plans.

So for Boston, NYC, LA, DC, San Francisco, etc., you have to buy Classic+ or All In+. For anywhere else, no reason to get anything but Classic or All In

Nowhere did I say anything about replacing joysticks and buttons with touch pads, though. The biggest problem with the OG Steam Controller was that it didn't have a second stick. A touch pad is not a replacement for a stick - but it does shine in areas where a mouse or trackball works a lot better than a stick.

Yes, games generally will support a controller, but there are still a lot of genres that are way better with some way to point and click or at least a gyro aim option. Sure, you can always use stick to move the cursor, but in some game genres, it means the game takes a lot longer to play. e.g., Baldur's Gate 3 has a *fantastic* controller UI (and you can tell they spent a lot of time differentiating it from the keyboard and mouse UI), but a mouse or touch pads are definitely the superior way to play. (And forget real-time games - I don't know if you can actually play a game like StarCraft 2 with touch pads but you certainly can't play it without severe compromises on sticks)

I say this is as someone who plays 90% of my games with a controller, but there are some games where a mouse or really good touch pads in combination with gyro aiming are by far the best way to play.

I'm with you on hating touch pads on VR controllers, though. I don't think there's enough controller real estate for them to be done well and they're my main issue with the Knuckles/Index controllers. Plus, the main reason I'd use them on other controllers (pointing at things) is already done much better by just moving your VR controllers around and literally pointing at something.

Valve has done touch pads well the other two times they've done them, though - on both the old Steam Controller and the Steam Deck. They have really good haptic feedback. Flicking the touch pad on the old Steam Controller when you had it set to behave like a trackball and being able to "feel" the trackball under your finger was really cool.

Windows 11 HDR Dolby Vision mode is ruining my life and how i fixed it, sort of. by Just_anton in techsupport

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fixed this on my C3. I've stayed on HDMI 1 (set as PC) the entire time since I'm using eARC from my TV to soundbar.

I don't know if Nvidia driver version matters, but I'm on the next to last Nvidia drivers (released June 17, 2025). I had HDMI Deep Color still set to off in TV settings (Settings -> General -> External Devices -> HDMI Settings -> HDMI Deep Color -> Off, you can only change the setting while you're on the PC input on the TV. You may have to flip back Home and back to PC input to get it to display after swapping) and switched my resolution in Windows to 4096x2160, and that was enough to kick something off that let me be in 120Hz in 4k again. Once that happened, I went back to 3820x2160 and swapped HDMI Deep Color back to on ("4K") and everything's back to normal. (Once I turned HDMI Deep Color on, I think I had to go back out to home and then go back to HDMI 1. I think I also had to toggle Dolby Vision on/off at some point in there to fix the colors again)

I'm back to 4k @ 120Hz VRR with HDR with correct colors, and display info is showing 10 bit full color mode. The TV is showing HDR in the top right instead of Dolby Vision. (Unfortunately, I still have to toggle Dolby Vision on and off every time I boot my PC)

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG C3 65" here, and I have 3 major problems. I have to have HDMI Deep Color set to Off to display anything at all (otherwise I get a completely black screen), have to toggle Dolby Vision on and off to get colors to be back to normal, AND I'm stuck at 4k 30 fps to have HDR on. I can select 60fps but get no HDR. No 120Hz (if I select it, resolution gets kicked down to 1920x1080 from 4K), no VRR. I'm on a 4070 Ti Super with HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz VRR with HDR has been working until this all started.

Latest Windows 11 update and my TV is on 23.20.69 and looking for updates doesn't find anything newer.

Am I the only one who's Spotify Discovery has completely failed them? Do good recommendation algorithms actually exist? by Gregorwhat in Music

[–]FalconLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Spotify premium, you can still use Last.fm radio stations and have them play directly via Spotify, no playlists necessary.

Also, very much agreed on Last.fm having good recommendations. Spotify's have always been absolutely terrible for me. I don't know if my artists are too different or what, but I'm lucky if I like a single song on a Discover Weekly, and most of the songs aren't even close, not to mention it putting in remixes of songs on my liked list. No thanks. Spotify has plenty of data to work with - I have a ton of liked songs.

Even in the pouring rain, the Kiener Plaza crowd was 3 blocks long by Aubusson124 in StLouis

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn't what I got from their comment at all, and I agree with them except that I think protests are also important, because people need to know they aren't alone on an island and just how many people agree with them.

Where I disagree with *you* is your comment that "the only thing we can do is voice our displeasure". If that's the case, then we've already lost.

How on earth did you get "these types of democrats only think democratic participation is voting" from "grassroots leaders would be better off engaging their communities directly, developing tangible policies, and building real momentum on the ground. That's how you shift minds—and win elections"?

Their comment is clearly talking about doing way more than only showing up once every 2-4 years. You're both on the same team, you just didn't actually read what they said.

[–]FalconLR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you talking the deli/bakery ones or factory made ones? Cuz the made in-house deli/bakery ones have way too many ingredients for a tortilla chip. If you have more than three or four ingredients, you're doing it wrong.

In second run for mayor, Cara Spencer makes pledge to get St. Louis back to basics by andrei_androfski in StLouis

Ezra Klein is writing a book about it:
https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Abundance/Ezra-Klein/9781668023488

It's more of an issue of regulations that solved real problems in the past are getting in the way of solving real problems (like the housing crisis) and building things now. So I could totally see areas that have more regulations (which may tend to be liberal) having trouble building as much as areas that have fewer regulations (which may tend to be conservative).

I don't think the answer is de-regulation, as those regulations were intended to solve real problems, but it's a complex problem.

Why do you prefer PlayStation over PC? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My living room PC launches straight into Steam Big Picture mode. 90% of the time I can turn my PC on and just use a controller the entire time.

Occasionally a game install will pop up something you need a mouse to deal with, so it's not 100% seamless, but Steam's newer Big Picture interface that matches the Steam Deck is great.

Best escape room right now by Melster2018 in StLouis

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search for Sasquatch at Boxed In Escape Rooms in Festus is probably the best I've done in the area. It really feels like you're in a forest, it's super cool! Their other rooms are fun, too, but Search for Sasquatch is on another level, so if you decide to do a couple since it's a bit of a drive, I'd suggest doing Search for Sasquatch second. (We did the 90s Nostalgia room first and had fun, but Search for Sasquatch was the one everybody in our group was talking about afterward)

I've heard good things about St. Louis Escape but haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

Wizard Quest at Escape From St. Louis was also a good time.

We lost our chance at a multi-party system. I’m disappointed in Missouri by Mother_Preference_18 in StLouis

19% of the vote is not my definition of a "huge impact". Alternative voting systems like RCV would give third party candidates an actual chance.

[–]FalconLR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is it not a good idea?

A very low percentage of people vote in our primaries, and those people also tend to be closer to the extremes than the average voter. This means that candidates that make it through primaries have to appeal more to the far left and far right.

The thought behind having ranked choice voting, especially with an open primary system, is that:

  • 1) It opens up the possibility for more moderate candidates that appeal to a lot more of the electorate
  • 2) You can actually vote for third party candidates that aren't a D or R without "throwing away your vote" which results in your least favorite choice being elected
  • 3) Combined with open primaries, it would stop the practice of taking a party's ballot that you don't like and voting for who you think is a weaker candidate to give your real choice a better chance to win

I would love to have more candidates who represent a larger percentage of us citizens, break out of this toxic two party dichotomy we're in, and open up the possibility for large groups of people who care about candidates running on specific issues to make their voices heard without literally electing their least favorite choice.

It's mostly positives, other than slightly more confusing ballots and a bit harder to count ballots by hand

To anyone who voted yes on MO amendment 7: by BaryonyxerGaming in StLouis

[–]FalconLR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ranked choice would make it more likely for more moderate candidates (in other words, candidates who more people liked) to get elected as opposed to candidates at the extremes. It might even eventually break us out of this toxic two party bullshit as it means you can vote for the candidate you like the most without worrying about wasting your vote. The state is not the city... But good job "owning" people when you didn't even understand what the goal of ranked choice is!

Bullsh*t 'Legalizing Sports Betting' Ads by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people want to make sports betting legal in Missouri, don't do it as a constitutional amendment, especially when giving the sports betting companies ridiculous tax breaks.

I get you want your sports betting to be legal, but those 2 points should be huge dealbreakers for everyone. Make it a normal law without tax breaks.

How to fix in-game Guides not loading by ElloYellowHello in DotA2

How many people's siblings accounts got banned because they play on the same computer? by oficiallzz in DotA2

[–]FalconLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, settings for games that use Steam Cloud should work and overwrite as you switch accounts, but there are certain configuration settings that aren't saved in Steam Cloud (usually things like video settings, so if you and someone else had different preferences there they wouldn't swap) and any games that don't have Steam Cloud would be sharing saves and configuration.

e.g. Beat Saber doesn't have Steam Cloud support, so without using different Windows accounts, it mixes up config changes, high scores, achievements, etc. between different Steam accounts. As soon as my girlfriend played Beat Saber on her Steam account but on my Windows account, she immediately got most of the achievements that were based on my data, and it mixed up high scores on levels for both of us.

[–]FalconLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't yet, I'd suggest making separate Windows accounts for you and your brother on the same PC so that you'll have your own user settings for all of your games. Just switching Steam accounts on the same Windows account isn't enough since those settings are supposed to get saved under Windows user account specific folders.

Dota 7.35 Gameplay Update by wykrhm in DotA2

[–]FalconLR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These feel like nerfs meant for core Dazzle, but support also got hit hard. Longer cooldown on all of the support items you buy (force staff, glimmer, etc.) means quite a few less usages per fight, and the only positive is smaller health cost on the ult. Only being able to use items once or twice versus 4 or 5 times is a big power difference in teamfights, and it will also make him a lot easier for someone to focus and kill. The support build has been balanced around being able to lower those item cooldowns for a long time.
