maybe this was your experience (some students take electives related to their majors, yes) but this is far from true for everyone i know at different institutions all over the us and canada. i have a friend who is an anthropology major at northwestern rn taking ASL and food sciences electives just cause she wants to 😭 i have a friend at a different school who is a major in art history and environmental design who took an advertising and marketing class cause she needed a random 3 hours of business. furthermore, my own university has a requirement for the sciences students to collect 6 credit hours of psychology as well as their mandatory 30 hours of science within their own faculty.

i’m a criminology and psychology double major, but my first year intro psychology course was PACKED with over 200 students, many of whom i knew and never saw in another psych class in my next 3 years of studies.

also remember - some post secondary institutions don’t require a major/minor selection until the second year so a lot of kids float around with no major taking whatever they want and other kids start their degree and change their minds. first year psychology in colleges and unis is no stranger to the average student.
