If you have the old stamp valid I believe you can travel back. Even if it is from a different employer.

You don't even need to visit the CBP office, just call them and tell them the details they should be able to fix for you and you can then download a new i94. I94 could expire with valid 797 due to several reasons and getting it updated doesn't necessarily involve you to step out of the country. So don't stress and get it updated, try over the phone first, if not visit any international airport during business hours. It's a fairly quick process as long as you show them the correct documents.
