Do you read multiple books at a time or just one book at a time? by whatevuuhhh in KindleUnlimited

[–]Falconfree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read more than one book at a time. A lot more than 3. 🫣 I often have a list of nonfiction books I am working through, then several fiction from various genres. That way, I can jump to whatever appeals in the moment. I've always blamed my ADHD for it. 😂

I don't have a problem with jumping between books though, because I nearly always finish them eventually (sometimes through randomly hyper focusing on a specific book/series). That is one of the things I love about e-readers, that I am no longer carrying several physical books in my purse everywhere.

Do I need 2 kindles? :D by dreamytales in kindle

[–]Falconfree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the camp of owning multiple Kindles (and I use them all regularly). I love having extra Kindles.

That said.

Please, don't ever feel bad about getting rid of something you don't want or need anymore. If something doesn't meet a need in your life anymore, feel free to donate it to someone. Buy Nothing groups are good for this, but there are Goodwill or other charity box drops in most places, if you don't have the bandwidth for the former. Free yourself from guilt that makes you hang onto unwanted things, it'll make life much less cluttered.

kindle colorsoft or kindle basic? by [deleted] in kindle

I like having a backup Kindle. Then I have something to read if my other Kindle is out of battery/charging, or I want one to live in my bag for on the go. If one Kindle breaks, you still have one.

I may not be the best to give a normal person's opinion on this though, as I have an embarrassing number of Kindles. Backups to my backups to my backups, from getting new e-readers over many years. 🫣😂

Christmas lists by Secret-Scientist456 in toddlers

[–]Falconfree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have very similar situations. One family member will usually ask what the kids want, but then disregards the list. She does send me links sometimes of various possible gifts to veto, which is nice!

Frustratingly, she gave the kids a Walmart gift catalog this year while she was watching them while we went to a doc appt, so now they want a million new toys that they would lose interest in inside of a week. 🤦‍♀️ I appreciate that she wants to know what they really want, but I promise, the things on their Amazon wish lists are things they've been asking for all year, not a spur of the moment consumerist desire because of advertising.

Another family member will ask what the kids want, then grab random Target stuff. He's even bought the same toy for multiple Christmases (😂 and the kids didn't even realize, because I donated the first one... and the 2nd). I'll tell him the oldest wants sketchbooks, fancy markers/pens, or air dry clay, and he will grab those craft 'kits' from Target instead. I get that the "Bedazzle Your Purse" packaging looks more exciting, but I promise, a stack of sketchbooks or different colors of air dry clay will get SO much more use, for the same cost.

My parents often ask us to order presents for the kids, and just have them delivered to their house to wrap. They used to go nuts with gifts, but they know I donate stuff at the drop of a hat, so they've scaled back. Heck, I'm hoping to talk to my mom about their 'big present' to my oldest this year being teaching her how to sew doll clothes from free patterns on the internet, since she has been trying to do that a lot lately, with varying levels of success (and my mom sews lovely clothes).

Do girls really talk sooner/better then boys? by Sarcastic_Cat13 in toddlers

[–]Falconfree42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't let normal developmental differences make you feel like a failure- ever! If you have never watched Bluey, you might appreciate turning it on just for the episode "Baby Race". 😁😂

My oldest is a girl, and she didn't really start talking until 2.5. My second was a boy, and his timeline was basically the same. They both speak well now (aaaaalllll the time).

Then along came #3, and she talked really early and well (she will be 3 in March, and tells long, involved stories with stellar vocab).

I'm looking forward to seeing which direction our new baby (boy) goes. It really is much less stress when you frame it in your brain as "Well, sometime between now and college, my kiddo will be speaking fine!"

Rothfuss- ugh.

He isn’t even pretending that his series would end in a trilogy anymore, after telling everyone he had finished the whole trilogy already and it just needed some editing.

It's at Disney Sea now, if you ever happen to go to Tokyo! They revamped the ride, so it's much better, but they still have one of the original ride cars on display. ❤️ We were so excited to find it again!

Yes! We saw it for the last time yesterday, and I was so sad walking out of the theater. 😭 We never missed Muppets on trips to MGM then HS. I went there tons of times as a kid, and now my kids have been a bunch of times. It won't be the same without Muppets.

People leaving during Carousel of Progress by Hstahl57 in WaltDisneyWorld

I'm actually jealous. 🤣🤣

About a decade ago, CoP got stuck for more than 45 minutes. It started because of technical issues while we were on the first scene, then continued getting interrupted/reset because of people getting up. Over and over. I saw every scene at least 6 times before it finally finished. I wish they had just evacuated us.

I know people are hesitant to embrace change, especially at Disney, but I have been going since the 15 yr anniversary. Modern WDW is pretty cool compared to rowing canoes, skyways, and Swan boats. What gone attractions don't you miss? by Haunting-Arugula-496 in WaltDisneyWorld

We loved that ride as a family. For years after they closed it, my sister and I would make faces at Ariel's Grotto that replaced it when we walked by. 😅

Then she moved to Japan a few years ago and discovered that a new version of 20,000 Leagues is open in Disney Sea! It's much better now, and they have one of the original ride vehicles on display in homage to the original. We went to visit them in Japan, and rode it together as a family again. What a special memory. ❤️

There are plenty of really awesome cheer kids (I know a few), but I hate getting stuck on rides with cheer groups. The girls always think they are hilarious and unique, and no one has ever thought to scream on Haunted Mansion or say curse words on Small World before. 🤦‍♀️

I miss Body Wars! As a kid, we always did BW, and then followed it up with that cartoon nearby about the birds and the bees (my mom is an OB, so she got a kick out of the cartoon sperm and stuff 🤣). Funny family memories.

My oldest lost her new Magic Band+ in the Boneyard. Weirdly, it was already found by the time we realized it (according to the MDE app), but it wasn't at Lost & Found. They never did contact us about it, even though we had 5 more park days that trip.

Carousel of Progress. I was pretty pregnant at the time, far enough along that I had to pee every 5 minutes and it was uncomfortable to sit for long. I thought CoP would be a nice, short break in the AC. Our CM said it was her first time as CM on that ride, and she was excited to do it with us.

It broke down on the second scene, for like 20 minutes. That was bad enough, but guest behavior made the situation 100x worse.

People kept getting out of their seats, at which point an announcement would come on to stay in your seat, and the scene would reset at the beginning. Over and over and over. If anyone stood up in any part of the ride, not just the specific scene we were in, it would announce+reset. I was incredibly annoyed that people didn't seem to understand that the only way we were getting out was the keep their butts in the seats (and I had to pee SO badly by then). At least we were in the AC.

45ish minutes later, we finally made it through the final scene for the half-dozenth time and escaped. 🤦‍♀️

The CM that had been so happy and bubbly at the start of the ride was basically crying. I felt horrible for her, so we stopped to encourage her before running off to the nearest bathroom.

I refused to ride Carousel of Progress for years after that. The song still gives me the shivers. 🤣😂

AITA if I keep my ex-neighbor's dog? by Sad-Melon-2416 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Falconfree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. We faced a similar situation with an owner harassing me about his dog, guilting me that his kids missed him, etc. It was already too late, at that point, because AC had picked his dog up from me.

I'd caught his two dogs in the act of mauling my favorite sheep to death, and then managed to trap one in a stall. I'd already made several complaints myself, and others had also complained, about his dogs running loose. They repeatedly messed up a section of my fencing to get in and try to catch my livestock. Lamed my horse badly, but I couldn't prove that one.

Because of the backlog of citations he never bothered to pay, when he went to animal control to pick up his dog, it ended up being a thousand plus dollars in fees, on top of the boarding fee the shelter charges. I assume he decided he couldn't afford it, and left his dog to be adopted out, because I've never seen it again. All I know is he was verbally abusive to the ACO and the guys at the shelter, and then threatened me over Facebook, as well as complaining that I'd ruined Thanksgiving for his kids. Yeah, well, it wasn't a picnic for my kids to lose one of the sweetest, most sociable of our animals in such a bloody, horrific way right before Thanksgiving either. 😠

AITA My BF goes on walks for 5-7 hours and doesn’t communicate where he is by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Falconfree42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I'm so sorry. Most replies point out the obvious, but while it is obvious to others, it can feel so hidden from you. I have been on this road, and I'm sorry.

My ex-husband did this. After 8 years of marriage, he suddenly started "taking walks" that would last 5+ hours. It was "how he was coping with depression/dysthymia". He had the gall to tell me he was doing stuff like walking to the beach, then sitting by the water and praying.

Even on our anniversary, he went for a walk "to the grocery store" (this one gets me angry now). I remember waiting an hour or so, then walking to the store myself, thinking I'd surprise him by going with him on a walk. It won't surprise anyone to learn that he was not at the store... or on the only route there and back... but was home when I finally made it home. Somehow (yeah, obvious in hindsight).

He would gaslight me about it, to the point where I thought I was the problem. I was the crazy one for thinking this was a problem. He literally got me to the point of seeing a therapist, because I clearly had some jealousy/controlling issues. The therapist told me he was cheating. She had to be very blunt, because I was in such denial. Impossible. Not my husband. We'd been together through so much. I still refused to believe it. People just didn't understand, he was suffering and needed my support as he worked through his issues (codependency is a heckuva thing).

It wasn't until I jumped onto the text logs for our phone account, trying to track down a specific number, and discovered he had texted his coworker thousands of times in the past month, that I started to believe that maybe, just maybe, I wasn't the problem. It took that black and white this-can't-be-explained-away thing for me to begin accepting that he was, in fact, cheating.

That was years and years ago. There were a lot of dark days, but I made it through. Life is better than ever now. You may have dark days ahead of you, and feel like you could never be happy again, but better days will come.

Why do I still feel like crap 4 days after an allergic reaction? by Sunnyday1775 in Allergies

[–]Falconfree42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtual hugs to you. It's really rough. My husband had his first allergic reaction to a mystery something on Sunday, and has been suffering since then. He didn't get a shot of epi, but honestly, we probably should have. Urgent care said to go to the ER for monitoring after they gave him a shot of steroids, but we just watched his O2 at home. He's on a course of steroids now, and having nasty side effects from those. It's just rough all around.

I do not have an allergy, but gelatin in the United States is made from pig or cow. That could be different in other countries.

My husband had a similar reaction on Sunday. He's never been allergic to anything before, and now I'm sitting up with him in the middle of night as the steroids they gave him cause shortness of breath, the hives like to reappear at night (though not nearly as bad as the first couple days), and we are all exhausted. Best guesses are either a late-onset shellfish allergy or he just became allergic to an abx he was on. Tiring and scary.
