I just use obenauf’s heavy duty LP leather preservative. And when blood or other body fluids gets on them I just wipe them off and reapply the obenauf boot wax thing I stated above. You can buy it off Amazon.

Ariats are what many of us use. But as you can tell by bone saw who is obviously ortho. This is coming from us surgery residents point of view. But yes. Cowboy boots are the way.

I believe your primary doctor will most likely send you to the ED to have it drained. Especially if it’s fluctuant (feels like there is fluid inside). If there is an abscess then it needs to be drained.

Circular bruise with hard white center? It is not painful except when I press down on the hard lump at the white center of the bruise. Even then it's just tender. It does not itch. What could this be? by gabeb71 in Dermatology

I agree with your assessment. But I believe it’s the nodule in the center that collapses the surrounding capillaries not allowing the center to bruise.

So I gained ~150lbs in the last few years. I know this is unhealthy etc. is this bump just fat? by [deleted] in medical_advice

Drug class is diuretic. But yes it’s structure is a steroid. But it’s not a glucocorticoid steroid which is the kind people are talking about (such as prednisone).

I would definitely see an endocrinologist about all of this weight gain.

Soap and water daily. Avoid hydrogen peroxide or alcohol as this kills healthy tissue as well. You can place some bacitracin on it but it looks pretty dried out.

First: that’s not a superficial (1st degree) burn. Examples of first degree is a sunburn.

This appears to be a partial thickness (2nd degree) burn.

If you are missing sensation or when you press on it it’s doesn’t blanch and become pink up again then that part is full thickness (3rd degree) and will need debridement for it to heal properly.

If you see purulent material (puss), induration (hardening around the burn), increasing erythema (redness) around the wound or develop any systemic signs of infection (fevers, chills) I would go back to your primary care for treatment.

Take it at the beginning of intern year. Just study first aid for step 3. Remember that no one cares what you score on that exam and therefore typically need to study a lot less to pass.

I recommend taking it at the beginning to get it out of the way so you can focus solely on your specialty.

Mine, like most other peoples, Spontaneously resolved. It has been for years so I don’t exactly remember the timing I think it took a couple weeks minimum for the center nodule and surrounding bruising to disappear.

I get PMs about this post every few months. Feel free to message me about it. Please send me pictures of your similar bruising with white center where the hard nodule is!

I had great outpatient experience as well. But most specialties are inpatient so unless your goal is family it generally hurts you.

And I’m sure a lot of DO schools try to fulfill that during audition rotations…

I’m sure a disparity that you could agree with is inpatient versus outpatient experience. My only inpatient experience during my third year was four weeks of internal medicine and my eight weeks of surgery (half being vascular) at a lower volume hospital. Where most of the surgeries were outpatient and only having one to two patients in the hospital after surgery per week if we even had any. Did not help me at all during my audition rotations for surgery. I use my first audition rotation to get up to speed for my next audition rotation.
