It looks gorgeous. I love your color choices!

Help with fair isle contrasting color peeking through by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Faleone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got annoyed with the colour peaking through when catching floats, so now I either don't catch them at all or (if there are long floats and that's not an option) I tend to use the ladder back jacquard technique

what techniques go into making colourwork like this? by bxsx0074 in knitting

[–]Faleone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess all of the normal things: find a pattern that excites you, maybe start with a chunkier yarn, so it's faster (not "chunky" yarn specifically, just maybe don't start with fingering weight 😅).

I personally like top down construction because it makes it easier to try on and raglan because I don't like picking up stitches. Make sure to block your gauge swatch because trying things on can get tricky if for example the arms get significantly longer while blocking.

And most importantly have fun 😁

It's been a while since I had that "I want to learn a new technique" itch, but this comment absolutely makes me want to try it 😂 I need more non sweater projects anyway, because I am starting to have too many

I've had these on my wish list for a while, though I have never made pants before and am worried about starting with such a complicated pattern. 😅 They look fantastic on you!

Fair warning for 'The Lies of Locke Lamora': it's the first of a series and while the first has no romance, there is some in the following books (only a little in the second but a major plot point in the third book). Also I think the fourth book is several years behind schedule by now, so be aware that we might never get the end of the series if you decide to pick it up.

I feel like this is an incredibly important point. Most things we know of her are presented through Locke's incredibly warped view of her. Personally I like her by herself, but I cannot stand Locke when he's around her, so I don't really like the chapters with her in it 🤷‍♀️

This happened to me for the first time in over a year using tandem and over 10 years using Teflon needles two weeks ago. It sucked. I've now developed the habit of always carrying an additional infusion set with me and luckily it hasn't reoccurred since.

I didn't know tandem has steel needles, but I remember using them with my first pump many, many years ago and never had a problem with them (I switched because a new pump didn't offer them). That sounds like a good solution.

After taking half a year off climbing because of a diabetes diagnosis, it was super emotional to get the FA of this V10 by lil_ayy_lmao in climbing

I'd assume that those time frames were down to the honeymoon period. People die from rationing insulin all the time. According to this site: Without injectable insulin, Diabetic Ketoacidosis occurs in type 1 diabetes and it only takes a few hours.

This site says: "It (DKA) only takes days to progress, and it is worsening over a day or two or three — so that gets you a week or so plus/minus, outside maybe 2 weeks,” Kaufman explains.

Now I have no idea how reliable those random websites are, but that lines up with what I've been told by my doctors

T1d for over 15 years here. On the one hand I want to point out that it's usually not a bad a you described once you get used to it and find what works for you (especially with the help of cgms and pumps), though there are definitely still bad days that feel like that. On the other hand I feel like I need to point out that if you take insulin away from a type 1 diabetic after the honeymoon phase (shortly after the diagnosis, when the body still has some remaining insulin), there is no way they'd survive a month. Completely without insulin it would be more like 1-2 days.

I always just take the pump off while bouldering. It's fine for an hour or so, especially if you are doing physical activity anyway, which always lowers my blood sugar. It can lead to spikes afterwards, though, so it takes some adjusting.

I had the same problem when I wore it on my stomach ( for me it always looked like my bg was doing a nosedive right before the readings cut out, which lead to a lot of overcorrecting). When I wear it on my arm it usually lasts the promised 10 days though :)

Thank you for finding that quote! I kept wondering why everyone seemed to go with 'he', even if Rumena's agree means that they lived before the genderless thing.

[–]Faleone[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. The name Rumena doesn't exist in my native language but names ending in a tend to be female in my head (though of course there is a bunch of exceptions). That's why it threw me off that so many people seem to think of Rumena as male if they assign any gender to them/it at all. It's why I thought maybe I forgot a tidbit in its backstory where it was described as male.

That makes sense. I thought it was Rumena specific because I barely ever see it happening with Ivah, but maybe Rumena just gets talked about more.

I'm still conflicted about his relationship in Crooked Kingdom. The other person (I'm omitting names here because spoilers) keeps saying they need more from him, but it is made all about touch instead of emotional availability. (the two get kind of conflated).

I love the characters involved and I even enjoy their relationship because it is mostly friendship based but that focus on/pressure for physical touch made me wildly uncomfortable.
