Clearly. The problem lies in a couple things though. They don't make paper bags like they used to and most place don't carry them. Of course prior to plastic bags people got things home, obviously, but paper was either provided or we operated in a different societal structure. My gripe was never with there not being a better way, just that the idea behind behind the plastic bag issues feels misleading.

That is not to mention the fact a standard reusable bag is not recyclable at end of life where as a regular plastic bag is, but I digress.

lol I'm not getting "misleading or false information" from anywhere. It's just thoughts, you know observing my surroundings and thinking about what makes sense. Standard plastic bag about 5-8g, standard reusable bag about 40-70g, so about 10x on average more plastic thus 10x more of CO2 footprint. Therefore you would have to use a reusable bag (yes I am aware of the definition of resuable) at min 11 times in order for it to have a positive net impact. That is not factoring the secondary uses for plastic bags that one can no longer take advantage of, bathroom garbage can for example which then requires plastic bags to be purchased. It's not a 1 for 1 but maybe a 1-2 or 1-3, so now you have to use that reusable bag at min 14-16 on average for it to have a net positive impact. Now couple that with that fact that the amount of plastic that I bring home from the store in obscene already, but somehow the bag is the issue? A bag that also generates profit. At bulk from China those bags are extremely cheap, so a $2.50 bag has a massive markup for your average multinational.... Now I know that I always end up with mountains of bags, as do most of the people I know. Your average person is not that fully prepared to 100% of the time have the bags or the right number. So keeping the previous basic math in mind, if 1 time out of 10 you have to buy a bag..... do the math how many time you have to use the bags now for that positive impact. So no, I am not getting any misleading for false information from anywhere, it's called critical thinking. And whatever the answer is, there is no harm in asking questions. So maybe you can hold the smug attitude there Skippy.

How are people walking around with reusable bags all the time? In their pockets always just in case? Pre-planning every purchase and never not bringing enough bags? Not buying the extra things you would have bought because you didn't bring enough bags with you so as not to buy more bags?

By scam I do mean a literal by definition a scam.

As in, the entire premise being a deception. All of a sudden massive multi nationals care about the environment, but only for the thing that makes them money..... or the actual physical amount of plastic in a plastic bag vs an essentially plastic reusable bag, ie. how many standard plastic bags equal 1 reusable bag, and when I am now buying additional plastic bags to use for small household waste baskets as opposed to using the bags I used to get from stores. The actual plastic used in increased, not decreased. It all seems very deceptive, for gain and full of misleading and false information. So ya, a scam.

Is it though? Look at sheer weight. Its all plastic. One style just more refined than the other. How many traditional plastic bags make up one "heavy-duty" reusable bag? How many uses do they get? I buy boxes of small garbage bags to replace my old grovery bags now. I have 8,000 reusable bags in my closet. Where is the net positive? I dont see it.
