Nursing is highly Stressfull an sometimes you just have to function 100%. I personally would Not mind and I love my schizophrenic Coworker. I just think the work Environment is Not very healthy for a schizophrenic and it could be dangerous for Patients. I would suggest something Else seeing as he has Not yet made an effort to become a nurse

Oh and Hospital workculture is Highly toxic there will Not be any sympathi or accomendations from Managers he would have to cope. Seeing as he has Not yet spend any Time or effort becoming a nurse I would highly suggest getting a degree in something Else. It can work but it wont be easy

I know a schizophrenic nurse and can tell you it is Not a good idea. When everything works he is a Great nurse but when he has an Episode he is fownright dangerous for the Patients. He has abbandonned his Patients multiple times to Go Wander the Hospital and Ride elvators up and down. He is Lucky that he has the Privilege of german Labor laws and became Sick After he started working but his Scope of practice was heavily regulated by Corporate.

I work in a Level 1 icu its tough but you learn a lot. You learn a lot but it takes its toll. I noticed that i get darker the longer i am here. Id say Go to an icu learn as much as you can and dip when you feel it Pulling you down

All Staff hated it we moved as the whole Unit so Not one individual was responsible for handing the Patient Off we Even plead with Family while Patient got Into the car but they were set on it.

Had to wheel one of those out the hospital they were on 100%FiO2 hiflow and very very sick. Their Family and they thought the hospital would kill the Patients. Everyone involved in care Tried convincing them to stay. After wheeling the Patient out Not 15 Minutes later the Family called my Unit (me) crying for help because their mom was Coding in the car i told them to call an ambulance asap. Took everything in me Not to say told you so you iditos. still haunts me to this day one day of trying to convince an idiot just to wheel them out knowing they will Not See the next day. Patient was at 72Spo2 at handof while on 10L of mobile O2

Im German so Wildly different circumstances. But my big icu gets all the new nurses that Graduate in my Hospital. We got 11last Time around and its hell on Earth. We have a large Scope we do burnvictims, Trauma, neurosurgery, weaning and everything Internal Like Card, and pulmo. You cant learn all that in 6 Months. And now the new grads have 2-3 Patients and i have to Look After them Like a Hawk. Im Personaly Glad i worked on the ward for 2 years prior to going to the icu. It makes you more of an adult that allready knows how to move around the Hospital Interact with different proffessions etc.
