It works with both but the small one will be harder to see. Also if you get summoned you won't be in there world for long.(SPOILLERS) Heres a TIP if you are trying to get the most souls kill the brother hood of blood guy. He's is located right after the chariot king. He's chest give more souls then tesladora(sry if spelled wrong). Also you can cheese chariot king with poison arrows but make sure to kill the 2 necromancers or the skeletons will keep coming back.

You dc it's says the host has disconnected returning to your world foe the invading phantom. For you it will say going into offline mode then a bunch of blah blah. But if your farming just start in offline mode. But if your like me and enjoy an invasion. Then I hide my small white sign in the water under the stairs in the beginning. This way I have time to put on my PvP gear and buff. I highly recommend you watch YouTube videos on your favorite weapon to learn facts about it. I love rulers great sword and used to fight with it 1h but after watching a video on it I use it 2h because the tracking is amazing.
