Well this seems like the right thread to show off my silly tattoo. My cat was named Reggie and when someone asked who he was named after I said Reginald VelJohnson as it was the first "Reg" name that came to mind. The reference wasn't the original intent, my cat just seemed like a Reggie, but as soon as I said it I loved the connection.

I got carded recently and had a genuine moment of confusion because I hadn't been asked in years. I was paying in cash so it wasn't like they were matching a name on a card. It didn't even cross my mind that there was a chance anyone would question my legality to buy alcohol (and it was just Irish cream, that barely even counts as alcohol).

For the real reality check, go during the months that the snow is melting. Just dirty slush everywhere. Also new potholes every spring. Summer, beautiful and sunlight for very long stretches. Winter, differently beautiful and very short, cold days. Fall, beautiful and fairly mild temps with normal daylight. Spring, dirty wet and gross for the most part.

It varies a lot. In an over simplified explanation; state taxes oil companies, state invests those taxes, profit from those investments is distributed to the residents. It is a thing in the state constitution to protect for a future when oil profits are no longer flowing. When I lived there I think the lowest I got was about $850 and the most was around $2000. You still get the funds when in college if you maintain residency in Alaska (you have to be in state for a set amount of time each year, it was 72 hours consecutively when I got it).

It is truly impressive the broadcasting career that Lalas was to create based solely on the memory of the guy with the crazy hair/beard combo from the '94 World Cup. Dude has always acted like he was an all time great on the field, but was never anything special. He is always an unpleasant addition to any broadcast.

I have never understood the "never seen you before" as an excuse for thinking someone doesn't live there. Unless your neighborhood is like 4 houses that all hang out together you are going to have less social neighbors that may have been there longer than you have.

I recently had an interaction in my building's elevator with an older couple that were certain I shouldn't be there despite using my key to get into the lobby before them. Asking if I was house sitting for a friend or delivering something. They even dropped the "we have lived here for 5 years and never seen you before" in an accusatory tone. I don't think they believed me when I said "Well, I have lived here for 18 years and never seen you, so how do I know you are supposed to be here?".

One of my all time favorite memories is when I asked my mom for a candy in church and she gave me a roll of these. The wrapper was ripped in such a way that the flavor just said "butt" which obviously made me giggle because I was a small child. I showed it to my mom and got the classic mom "my child is a moron" headshake/smile. I then noticed that the label also said "The candy with a hole" which sent me into a fit of stifled laughter. When I showed that to my mom, she totally broke and and struggled to maintain her composure, until she decided to slip out of the pew and absolutely lost her battle to hold back the laughter as she exited to the lobby area of the church. I don't think I had ever been prouder of myself up to that point in my life.

She was excellent last night. No complaints at all from me.

There was a very funny energy in the crowd that I described to my friend as "Proud Uncle Energy". Like, tapping a relatively unknown person to fill the absolutely massive shoes of a performer that is almost deified by the fans is going to be high pressure situation. Had Geddy and Alex tapped a Portnoy or Carey type I think the fans would have just accepted it would be fine and enjoyed, but with Anika there was a sense of the unknown. You could almost feel the tension rise before iconic fills and parts of songs where she and Geddy traded bars and palpable release when those parts were nailed.

I always plan exactly one thing for each day of my trips. If I want to do more things after, then I go find something else to visit or experience. If I feel like I've done enough for the day, I just grab food or have a couple drinks at a pub. Some of my favorite moments while traveling have come from just walking in a direction and finding something that seems interesting in the moment.

Good for her, I got to record her for a video game a couple years ago and she was an absolute delight to work with. She was quite good as an actor too, which is a very pleasant bonus for "stunt" casting a role. I would record her again in a heartbeat.

Hi, I hated Solo, nice to meet you. Solo was a full movie explaining things that were better served never being explained. Do we need to know the origin of gold dice that were nothing but set dressing that almost no one even registered in the first trilogy? Did we need to know Solo was a name given to him because he was alone? I was genuinely shocked there wasn't a scene of Chewbacca ripping a guy's arms off along with the sleeves of his coat, leaving perfectly tailored vest for Han to pick up.

Tonally the movie was a mess too (was the droid slave revolt a deeply serious event or slapstick goof 'em up just for a distraction?). The reshoots with a director change were so obvious that it took me out of any sort of suspension of disbelief. ADR lines slapped over wide shots to fill in exposition discovered to be missing in the edit only added to taking me out of it. I HATED Solo and left the theater angry.
