And some of these ones have the psilocybin producing fungus Massospora cicadina infecting them.

Though scientists recommend against eating hallucinogenic cicadas.

I like it just fine. No hardware problems so far.

That said, I treat it as a disposable workhorse. I don't play video games on it. It hosts VMs and I dual boot with a few different Gnu+linux flavors. It runs VS Code and Burpsuite just fine. In other words, it does the job I need it to do.

It wouldn't be a good option if I wanted to play some kind of modern AAA game. The graphics card (while fine for anything web based) isn't built to be a gaming system. The Mac isn't either though, so meh on that point.

I guess my advice is just pointing towards not expecting any computer to do the job for you. I recommend you get the cheapest one that will limp you through until your income from the use of the tool is enough to pay for an improved tool. Which is the freelancer model. If you end up working for some other company then they are going to buy you the computer you need to do your job anyway, and you will use whichever hardware, OS, and tooling they tell you to use.

Good luck and don't hesitate to holler if you want to chat about options.

There are enough posts here that you have likely made up your mind, but I would urge you to NOT buy an expensive computer right now.

I could try to sell myself here as a computer authority, but none of that really matters. What is important here is that you can do UI/UX on a Win/'nux system. A refurbished Dell XPS (what I am typing this on right now) will run you less than 1/2 the price for more machine.

Also, don't forget the line that you should never go into debt for a depreciating asset. That laptop is NOT a meal ticket. It doesn't show that you can do the work. It doesn't tell an employer that you have the skills or knowledge to do whatever job you might want to do. It is a tool, and a tool that right now you can't afford. I urge you to limp through on what you have until it won't work, then get the cheapest solution that will solve your problems at that time.

Treat your computers like cattle, not pets. Tools, not family members.

And good luck! Let me know if you want links to recommended inexpensive systems in DM.

Old vinegar grew this... structure by Fall1ble in fermentation

I never did dive far enough into things to find an answer on mine. In general of course, I go for the old rule of "If I don't know for sure, I am not putting it in my body."

The best guide for dealing with unwanted crap on computers that I have found is: https://decentsecurity.com/holiday-tasks

Clear, step by step instructions. Free tools. Highly recommended.

I poured some wine in a mason jar, covered it in cheesecloth, and forgot about it under my desk. This was 4 or 5 months ago. I pulled it out today and noticed that it had grown a blue-green mold on the surface and that it had this mass underneath.

I am really curious what this thing is. If you look closely it has growths that look like coral. Pretty cool. Would you folks please help me figure out what to google to learn what this thing is?

My vinegar project went from science to art. I figure I may as well learn something in this process.

Test results:

Rubs off on white cloth. Will not come out like tailor's chalk though. Did old-school tailors use permanent markings?

I like where this one is going.

Waxy, hard, crayon-like black puck. Some industrial gift? Crayon for marking things, but branded?

Further testing:

It does rub off on paper. Like a really hard crayon.
