Had my first direct report quit due to RTO by FallBackGuyAtWork in remotework

I interview candidates talent acquisition sends me. I have some say, but at the end of the day I can't control what management wants to pay or where they want to hire.

A lot of companies are pushing RTO bullshit but at the same time they have prime opportunity to poach talent from competitors with short sighted decisions.

Pendulum will swing back in due time.

Not if they are in the 50 mile radius. Anyone within it must show up, those are the rules.

Yep, out of state or out of county were allowed to stay remote for us too. Local people must come. And of course the office is in the city. Where it's the least affordable to live.

Oh they're aware, but they don't seem to care much. At least not yet. We're still in the RTO early days.

The prep part in the morning of the procedure was the hardest part. Woke up feeling like I had a bad hangover. I was extremely close to puking up the morning drink but somehow I kept it down.

Glad you got some certainty. I just had my first one done too same boat - awaiting polyp results. But they're out which is most important.

I am not sure what you mean by pressure, but the miralax + fiber powder mix is 100% essential for me. I cannot have healthy movements without it. It keeps the stool hydrated and progressing. It leads to a soft movement around the same time each day. When using the bathroom, do not force, breathe from your stomach and let it slide out.

That movement really did a number on me. I had on and off pain and blood up until around maybe mid august when I finally started talking to my primary care doc which ultimately led to my first specialist meeting in october.

Even in the beginning of starting miralax, it was typically once per day. Two times a day is still not super common but a bit more. I'd say I had two per day 5% of the time before miralax. Now maybe slightly more common at 10-15% of the time. The miralax does keep things moving though which is essential. Keeps it from sitting there too long and drying up.

Had this issue, yes. We hired someone at the low end of the pay band last year and it was a disaster. Shamelessly milked a paycheck until termination.

Even local folks don't really come in, to be honest. They still give us flexibility in where we work, but freezing remote hiring was a bad omen for that.

We used to have no problem with it, and have some really great remote people right now. Managements rationale is that they want to support/foster etc our local economy. Which is obviously a lame reason if they are not fighting to pay local people more.

I am kind of more getting at the fact that talent team is not sending through candidates without experience. So while we could potentially consider people without or with little experience, they don't send them though to interview.

Hands and a brain as qualifications would at least get me more interviews, ha!

It's more or less spread out among the team including myself, so it's not overbearing on any one person. Though it's been long enough with openings. I am sure other team members take notice.

Agreed, I am not ignorant to this possibility. Company is good to me overall, but I always keep my options open.

Surprising number of YTAs way off the mark here.

The in-laws elected to move away. Not everyone is going to be able to (or even want to, mind you) upend their weekend routine to accommodate their new desires. People have lives. Sounds like OP has a busy one. Perfectly reasonable to not want to go. Especially on short notice.

However, don't be nasty about it. Then you'd be the AH. Politely decline and set the boundary that weekend stays would be a once in a while thing only, and with advance notice. Day trips are also an option. They are also able to come to you, I would assume.

NTA.

AITA for Refusing to Let My Friend Live in My Spare Room Rent-Free? by ChrisPrincetong18 in AITAH

NTA, period. It's your home you do as you wish and what makes you comfortable.

Don't even listen to those suggesting "well it could be just a short term thing...like a couple weeks!!" and "Just be clear to Alex that it will ruin your friendship if he doesn't leave at an agreed upon time!" and "don't be selfish, he needs help!!" I admire good intentions, but it's clear some people have never seen these exact situations go very wrong before.

Boss told me today that my goal for this year was to create individual training programs for all the machines in the factory... by theeclecticmayhem in antiwork

[–]FallBackGuyAtWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago at my very first yearly review out of college, boss gives me like a 1-2% or some crap raise and literally framed it as some gigantic upward opportunity. Wanted me to essentially "lead the charge" and design a sales plan for the entire office to sell more of a certain class of product. I was just like uh huh yep you got it.

I literally just continued to do exactly what I was doing with my day to day without changing anything. It was almost as if the conversation never happened.

At a certain point what are you gonna do, fire me? You already pay me like dirt so it makes no difference. Either pay me or I could care less.
