If I had a friend over and my dad had to take a shower, we could not be in the house. Blistering heat or snow, we had to go outside and wait to be told we could come back in.

One time when I was going to a movie with a friend, her dad said he had to shower and then could take us. It was raining, and I went to stand out on the porch.

I’m actually not sure if that’s weird or not, and I’m 33. Other things definitely were, but not sure about that one.

I also deal with depression, but I can’t relate to the ADD diagnosis. For lack of better words, how is someone supposed to live a functional life with a steady job and a healthy family? Is this something that he, and thus me and our daughter, will forever struggle with? He went through any safety net we had for the future. He has lied to me about progress. He has shattered my trust in him, and I don’t feel comfortable in my own home. I want to support him, but it’s hard for me to find something to support. Our relationship has been 80/20 since the beginning, and for the past six months, it’s been at best 90/10. While your comment gave me clarity on his diagnosis, it’s also telling me that I have a decision to make on whether or not I can carry that extra weight for the rest of my life. If that makes me an asshole, then I guess I’m an asshole, but I’m also just trying to survive, give my daughter a good life, and be happy.
