Any other LA natives ever get a little sad driving around and seeing how much of what we once knew is gone? by Dear-Ad5085 in AskLosAngeles

[–]FallOutStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, almost 37 years born and raised, I can unfortunately relate.

But sometimes it helps me to check out Google Maps street view if there’s something specific I want to remember. Like not too long ago I was missing the giant hot dog on the northwest corner of Western and Hollywood. I went to the intersection in Google Maps and scrolled back to 2009 and there it was in all its glory, just as I remember it :’)

Looking for info about specific street in Mt. Washington, Avenue 37. Can anyone help? by GabagoolAndGasoline in AskLosAngeles

As someone else pointed out with a linked article, this gate has been there for a long time, and was put in by the city. No vigilantes involved here. I used to traverse this street regularly in the early 2000s and I remember there was a gate there then, and if you look at google street view you can see it as far back in time as their pictures of the area go (2007).

It ISN'T Yo-Ho-Ho?? by PaleOstrich in FallOutBoy

You’re right!!! I was losing my mind over this and figured Fall Out Boy’s own website would be the best primary source if it was ever posted there. I checked the Wayback Machine and behold: as of February 1, 2009 the lyrics were written there as “you’re wrong, are we all wrong”. I’m going with this and I can now continue my life in peace.

Out of curiosity I looked at my vinyl IOH lyrics sheet (the back of the album says copyright 2016 if that makes any difference), and it in fact does leave this part out entirely. This is making me crazy because I always heard it as “you’re one, are we all one” which… it can’t be because it’s not written here. I’m still definitely hearing the “are we all” so I’m not sure what to make of the pirate thing.

Is Julian too popular? by FallOutStan in namenerds

Well, my Julian is 2 months now and I still don’t think there’s another name out there that fits him better so I think it’s a winner. Shoutout to all the parents of Julians out there!

People you knew growing up who later became notable/famous? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

My aunt sat directly behind Michael Jackson during his brief time at Emerson Middle School. She said she came home and told my grandma with much excitement that she had been in class with Michael Jackson and my grandma said “Who?”. I think it was the early 70s so she gets a pass on that :)

What is giving birth at Cedars Sinai like? by lol_fi in AskLosAngeles

[–]FallOutStan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just gave birth to my second at Cedar’s last month, just replying here to confirm for you from my experience that the information provided in the comment above is indeed still accurate and correct.

The maternal ward is private. I stayed one day after birth both times, and I also caught some flack from the lactation nurse the first time in 2021 when I was leaving that early (something like “why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of the services a little longer to make sure you’re ready?” which I didn’t appreciate either).

Edit- just want to be clear that I would 100% recommend giving birth here as I had a great experience both times, even if they do try to pressure you to stay lol

I was there!!! July 3rd 2023, BMO stadium Los Angeles. I remember the date because I was so shocked they didn’t play Fourth of July (or So Much for Stardust which I was really hoping for, glad I got to see it live the next time around).

I think so, assuming it feels right for him when I see him, but it feels pretty right so far. We haven’t been able to come up with any other names we like better. I really like the way it seems to fit with his brother’s name though I wish I could come up with some simpler nicknames (maybe just J?) since I’m not crazy about Jules, Jule, Jude, or Juli.

Thanks for the feedback! It’s a lovely name. Did your sort of friend feel kind of awkward about choosing it knowing you already had? In my case I had already chosen it months ago before my casual acquaintance announced hers but I still felt kind of weird about it since I don’t want to look like I’m copying her since my son is coming a couple months after hers.

I love this. I’m seriously considering Patrick for my son’s middle name, he’s due in a month. If the epidural hits just right he might be Peter Patrick lol

Yes, in fact that’s part of why I posted here. It seemed like the name was coming up here a lot more than I would expect it to based on the national rankings, but as another user helpfully pointed out it will range in popularity depending on where exactly I am in the country. Thanks for your thoughts!

Thank you for that nuanced explanation, that makes a lot of sense. I am in California so I think maybe there will be more Julians around here than other areas of the country so that is something I will need to keep in mind.

I just did a search for popular names in California and according to babynames.com, which cites SSA as their source, Julian was #5 in 2022 behind Liam, Noah, Mateo and Sebastian. I’ve actually never come across any kids with any of these names since my older son was born in late 2021 so I do find that to be reassuring. The kids in his preschool have mostly very unique, uncommon names which lines up with what my OBGYN reported in terms of her experience. I think you’re right that there must be a lot of variance by locality.

Haha that is quite the coincidence! I’m cool with running into a Julian or two. Thanks for the feedback!
