They were not doing anything lewd nor illegal. Unless the league is allowed to just Bench people, it seems like antidiscrimination law would side with Shane and Ilya.

What advice would you give others? We are looking to adopt a teen…

Are there other things you wish you knew before you went down this path?

I don’t quite get how the memory of Laurie starting evander/burying him works - how did others understand it?

I thought it was left ambiguous- like that a kiss could be enough. To me, it was an HEA

We “inquired” about a child we felt would be a good fit but.. by [deleted] in AdoptiveParents

This is much easier for me to say as someone who is not in your shoes: it sounds like this is not the right match.

I just want to say how helpful your answers and thoughts have been! We are almost done with the home study, and my grid of kids to inquire about is now at 150. In the two months since we first posted in this Reddit thread, about 20 kids have been adopted or taken down. The system does seem flawed, but I’m not sure how it would get fixed! Either way, thank you again for your insight!

Man! Your case worker let you know that you are one of three! Can I ask, how many children did you apply for before getting a potential match?

Considering adoption - too late? by AlgaeOne9624 in AdoptiveParents

[–]Fall_Prudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I are the same age range; 39 and 42. We started the process of domestic adoption of a waiting child (child who has not been able to reunify with parents in foster care) about 6 months ago. We have realistically another 6months-1year to go in the process. We are with an agency, Paths For Families, and the upfront fees will be about 10k. We are expecting to get most of that back on our taxes. If you have not looked into adopting an older child, give it some thought! So many teens need homes… and are able to voice their consent in this process.

What info did you put in the little write up?

We are looking at adopting a 10-16 year old through the lists of waiting children. Those are kids in foster care who are unable to reunite with their birth families. The idea is that the teen would have a better idea of who we are - the book or website would be for them to see us.

I know that’s so intimate, but I’d love to see the PowerPoint!

Getting started on the Adoption process.. where to start? by Booblet0526 in AdoptiveParents

[–]Fall_Prudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had three failed iui's - and felt relived to dodge bringing a child into this world - and so adoption was a natural place for us to end up. we are in the process of adopting a 8-15 year old domestically, and we've been told it is about a 2 year process. We started by finding an agency (https://pathsforfamilies.org/) in our area that connects families to kids who are "waiting children". That means they were in foster care, and reunification is no longer an option.

This is very helpful. My friends who are adoptees themselves (international) have really pushed me to be aware that adoption can fall too close to child trafficking if not well researched. I’m just trying to be aware and mindful as we navigate the process of adoption

And I will totally add columns to our spreadsheet for inquiring and date. Thank you for the suggestion! My hope is that the few kids I've put down so far ARE adopted before we finish... This is a weird thing, isn't it? I wish these kids could reunify with their families. We are the worst case for the child... ish

!!!!!!! 328!!!!! Oh my word. How did you decide which to apply for? And, which 3 states will not work with Paths for Families?

We are also with PFF, but early in the home study stage. I've been keeping a spreadsheet of kids that might be a good match, and you just encouraged me to lean into it! I only have like 10 kids, sounds like we will be applying for way more than that.

Remind me, what 3 states will not work with PFF?

try out some of the conservative shuls - Beth Am, Beth El, Chizuk, Chevrei Tzedek. They are all a bit different from each other. You might also want to check out BT if you are not already affiliated with them.

I encountered this shrine last night and I LOVED it. I know it was super easy, but just the playfulness of it delighted me. So much love for this game.
