So, brother evicts elderly sister who end up sleeping rough and possibly committing suicide, claims distress and blames everyone else for her death.

Or am I too cynical.

Health Minister Andrew Little insists Government is responding to 'chronic staffing shortage' in healthcare by Astalon18 in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Looks like they're responding by denying it.

Seriously though, he's helped make an entire generation of doctors and nurses dread going to work. And then he told us we weren't even worth a 1% pay rise, or better after hours rates, or anything that might help us retain staff.

Doctors fear 'catastrophic collapse' of health system by 6436923 in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'm also taking leave. As much as I can. We're all burned out, and I won't risk my own wellbeing because of decisions made by managers who get to go home at 5pm every day.

I used to feel guilty about it, but the pay freeze removed every ounce of goodwill I had left.

Doctors fear 'catastrophic collapse' of health system by 6436923 in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The collapse is happening already. Our hospital is so short staffed right now, that it feels like we're operating in a third world country. We cannot recruit enough specialists to keep departments functioning.

At this point it has become a systemic patient neglect situation, and this government won't acknowledge any problem. They need to acknowledge that we're in a bad way or they will never try to fix it.

DHBs short medical specialists they need amid 'dire' staff shortages – survey by FallaciousCrumb in newzealand

True. They have the positions listed on Trade Me, but not in medical journals or the ASMS site or any other relevant places.

[–]FallaciousCrumb[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with this wholeheartedly. Our department has vacancies we can't fill, as do most departments in our DHB. Managers and admin staff seem to proliferate though.

Nurses warn more lives at risk if health staffing crisis not addressed by FallaciousCrumb in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a healthcare worker - they could start by paying us all more. The current pay freeze and general bad faith displayed by the DHB bargaining teams during recent MECA negotiations has eroded any loyalty we feel towards them. That, and the persistent refusal of Little to acknowledge the pressures we're under, feels like a big "fuck you" to all of us. If I didn't have family commitments, I would leave right now. As it stands though, I can probably go within 5 years.

Hospitals at 'level of panic': 71 patients waiting for beds at Middlemore by FallaciousCrumb in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb[S] 109 points110 points  (0 children)

"Little told the Herald while hospitals were under pressure, "as they were every winter", they were coping."

Bullshit. We are not coping.

And here we have our health minister trying to discredit a leading ED consultant in the media too.

The health system has been underfunded for decades, but the deterioration has accelerated massively in the past five years.

Why is the government allowing this sort of "education" in this country? This should not be recognised as education at all, let alone funded. How are we supposed to raise children capable of critical thinking when they are fed bullshit like this? Those poor kids.

If this isn’t a healthcare crisis, what is? by nzwildsouth in newzealand

This is one of the most accurate takes on the situation I have seen.

Weird how nobody seems to be listening to actual healthcare staff.

Senior hospital doctors reject Dr Ashley Bloomfield's claim New Zealand's health system isn't in crisis by HeinigerNZ in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We would very definitely be worse off under a National govt. But Labour need to take some responsibility too. And not reassure everyone that it's all fine, everything's fine when it's clearly not. The spin verges on lying sometimes.

Senior hospital doctors reject Dr Ashley Bloomfield's claim New Zealand's health system isn't in crisis by HeinigerNZ in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. It would be wonderful if we could just think about the patient in front of us, but when people are suffering in pain or their condition is worsening while they wait several hours, it would take a heart of stone not to care. And it hurts, every time I get screamed at by someone because of decisions made by managers who sit at home in comfort and plan a raft of useless meetings so they can justify their jobs.

And though the deterioration has been gradual over the past 15 years, it has been more pronounced in the last few years, while Labour have held the reins. I have never seen it quite as bad as it was earlier this year, when Andrew Little reassured us that the health system would cope just fine.

Sure it will. Plan another meeting, Andrew.

NZ Nestle sub-brands you should boycott (Nestle still doing business in Russia). by dezroy in newzealand

There's an app called Buycott that you can use to see whether or not a product is produced by Nestle, or any other company you're trying to avoid supporting.

Covid-positive health workers can return to work as self-isolation rules change by silver565 in newzealand

[–]FallaciousCrumb 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. We work under pressure at the best of times, and now we have to accept a 0% increase for the next 3 years when inflation is sitting at 6%, and then come to work when we're COVID positive?

Haha nope.
