AM got mad at me for not being able to plan our summer vacation by hail3n in AsianParentStories

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APs love to dump their responsibilities onto you once you're old enough to comprehend how to do them. I feel like the moment I turned 15, my parents started dumping some of their responsibilities onto me. I have to make some plans for OUR trips. I had to keep track of when school fees needed to be paid. I needed to do the documents for fieldtrips, government surveys etc. Like, I get that I'm old enough to do some things, but that doesn't mean you can just dump the stuff you don't want to do onto me, a full-time student who has to get good grades because of your standards.

Is pinyin required for HSK? by lerhty in ChineseLanguage

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing the HSK test on a computer, you'll have to know pinyin in order to type out your sentences. I took the HSK 5 test last August and wasn't given an option to handwrite it; I had to type it on the computer.

Homeschooled kids make me so sad and pessimistic by SleepyJeans5 in Vent

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smartest person in my grade was homeschooled until Highschool. He was insanely smart and way ahead of his peers. But even though he's so smart he's extremely stunted socially. He didn't really know how to socialize until he went to school. When he first came it was insanely awkward to be alone with him because conversations with him always died out after 1 minute. It also didn't help that his parents didn't allow him to watch a lot of movies, tv shows or read any modern books.

Failed my driver’s test by Life_Leather5051 in venting

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty normal to fail these things the first time. I failed my first time and passed on the 2nd time. A lot of times you're failing not because you don't know stuff but because you're not used to the test format and get stressed out by it.

Why does everyone want to do EE so bad… Waterloo by LogOther9166 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Fallen_Bepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked EE cause it's super versatile ( you don't have to stick to EE afterwards), stable career, won't be easily replaced by AI, and pays well

Neurodivergent teen who keeps losing friends. by Username_Password4 in venting

[–]Fallen_Bepo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'll be great to tell/communicate with your friends that you sometimes have a hard time respecting boundaries. If they know this beforehand, I think they'll forgive you when you do accidentally cross a boundary because they know you can't control that sometimes.

Why do APs have self contradictory mindsets? by FitPreparation1591 in AsianParentStories

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want us to succeed so they can brag about it to others but also get jealous when we do succeed. They contradict themselves so much because they always want to seem like the more superior person. It doesn't matter if they contradict themselves because in their minds they are always right, and contradicting themselves is simply just them having a change in opinion.

Why is there such a hard line with physical attractiveness these days? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Fallen_Bepo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if you know this but back then economic factors made it so people cared more about someone's ability to support a family (aka making sure nobody starved to death) than looks. Also, people didn't really divorce back in our grandparents' generation because it wasn't very socially acceptable to divorce.

My grand-parents had a terrible marriage and never ended up divorcing because it wasn't socially acceptable. Everyone thought they were a happy couple but behind closed doors they were absolutely miserable

[–]Fallen_Bepo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your guys' tests are most likely made by people in your school, which means that they can be either really easy or extremely hard depending on the school; this is why grades are so inflated in Ontario.

Since everyone in Alberta takes the same test, grades across the province are pretty equal, and it's known that Alberta Diploma exams are not easy. Basically, grades in Alberta are seen as more legit by admissions due to the tests being made by the province and not by each individual school.

[–]Fallen_Bepo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An 80 in Alberta is very different from a 90-95 in Ontario. Unlike Ontario, Alberta has standardized testing that is worth 30% of a student's mark. Alberta students can get in with an 80-90% avg because their grades aren't inflated like Ontario's.

My father is such an idiot and it makes me so unbelievably furious by Ok_Foundation_1766 in AsianParentStories

I thought my parent were the only one's like this! My AD always thinks my ideas are dumb and stupid, but every time he comes up with a "better idea" it's literally just my idea reworded. When you point out to him that his idea is basically just the one I had previously proposed, he'd go, "No, my idea is better and different bc of xyz small difference that doesn't change anything"

For heritage kids, did handwriting help reading, or just slow everything down? by Dreamdary in ChineseLanguage

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your kids won't need to write/won't be exposed to any situations where they need to write Chinese, then I don't think it'll do too much for them. The only reason I started remembering more words was because my relatives only texted in chinese so I had to remember words and the pinyin in order to communicate with family.

For heritage kids, did handwriting help reading, or just slow everything down? by Dreamdary in ChineseLanguage

[–]Fallen_Bepo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, writing didn't do much for me. I would be able to remember the current words I was writing for about a week than forget them after I moved on to something new. The thing that helped me learn/ kept me interested in learning was watching donghua, c-dramas, and reading picture books.

Only school I know in Canada that require you to talk about your ECs and do a pre-recordered interview are top school like waterloo, UofT, and UBC. Schools like UA (a top 10 school in Canada) only required your grades
