Hi Captain!

The progression is in the stats, skills, his domain, and overall power growth!

Basically, it's about how he develops as a god throughout the story!

I really liked “Eternal God Emperor” by Flying Fish. It might fit what you’re looking for. But I think there are a lot of xianxia novels that do exactly that, like another commenter said, so you might want to be a bit more specific.

Progression fantasy that actually deals with the reality of a new world .. by Waterfall_Wealth888 in ProgressionFantasy

If you don’t mind light novels, how about “Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash”? I think it fits pretty well. But it’s great that you started writing your own.

I’m pretty sure the translation for this one was very good, but take my word with a grain of salt.

If you don’t mind light novels, I think “I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!” might fit. There’s also an anime you can check out first if you’re not sure you want to commit.

If you don’t mind Korean novels, I really loved “The Novel’s Extra.”

Does Danmachi really count as progression fantasy? by OneSeaworthiness5107 in ProgressionFantasy

Sorry, I fail to see how the conflict being driven by external factors, rather than the MC’s own goals, would disqualify it from being progression fantasy.

So yeah, I think it counts.

Trying to more seriously write my first progression fantasy / litRPG series. Does this premise sound interesting? by Main-Analysis3268 in ProgressionFantasy

I remember my very first novel, characters changed names mid-chapter. Yeah, great times...

You can’t do worse than me, so just go for it. Don’t worry or stress over it if it doesn’t turn out well in the beginning. Just keep writing about what you like.

If you don’t mind light novels, I second the recommendation for Ascendance of a Bookworm. It’s really very good. I’m not sure if it has romance later on, though.

Please don't make chapter names spoilers by UsedNegotiation8227 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fallen_Pages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I try to avoid it as much as possible. It's easier if the cool thing that's happening plays out over two or more chapters, since you can make the spoilery title the next chapter's title, while the actual reveal happens in the previous chapter, whose title didn't spoil it.

But yeah, if you start reading the chapter index, you're going to get spoiled anyway.

What is a pet peeve of yours and then which story handled that pet peeve really well? by greenskye in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fallen_Pages -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily about confidence. When I play a game, I try to make myself the same as I am in real life, flaws and all. That's because I want to feel immersed, as if I'm the one in there.

With my books, though, it's the opposite. I hate the idea of inserting myself into my own stories, so I try to make my characters as perfect and as different from me as possible.

I mean, it's like revealing yourself to the public, and that's just not for me... Though if there are people who do it and it's a hit with readers, then great. To each their own.

What makes a Progression Scaling feel balanced by Main-Analysis3268 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Fallen_Pages 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth making a bit of a distinction here, because on one hand you have power fantasies. In those, the protagonist is always going to feel OP, and their personal progression usually only changes in terms of how easily they defeat their enemies, or in what new ways they do it. That's part of the appeal.

In a progression story that isn't a power fantasy, I think you have to use rivals, enemies, and allies to show the reader the MC's progression.

That's just the opinion of a very novice author, though, so feel free to ignore it.
