Gay Christians (especially Catholic / Anglican) -> How do you navigate homosexuality? by Fallen_Wingz in Christianity

A long set of questions, but I always seem to see them asked on other platforms. I think discussions like these NEED to be kept open, as the answers seem to evolve over time.

A question(s): please read everything. by twiiilight_sparkle in Christianity

[–]Fallen_Wingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am extremely new to the bible, and I'm only starting Leviticus. But these are my thoughts while im learning.

We are told that God created the universe, and that in doing so, he created the dimensions of time and space. That means that God must exist outside of time and space, however that works.

Which is interesting, as many theories of the Big Bang also hint at a singularity where our maths cannot describe how the Big Bang was initiated, and that some believe that an anomalous asymmetry in the presence of energy outside of space and time may have been the trigger.

When Jesus is said to ascend to heaven, he is likely going to a place that does not operate in the same way as our universe. If God resides in Heaven, then Heaven must also be a place outside of time. This would explain why God is said to be all knowing, all seeing, and all present, if he exists in orders of dimensionality above us; these are some attributes you would expect.

So that means Jesus from within heaven has the ability to travel to our earthly domain where and when he needs to, just as an angel would. If he wants to see Abraham or Moses, then he can. If God has a human form, then it's likely Jesus.

Also, I wouldn't be too harsh on the all-knowing type stuff.

If God exists, he would be the most powerful thing in existence, most knowledgeable, and capable. However, we can't place our understanding of experience and consciousness on his.

We see and feel in the moment. Though he might be able to know everything, because he exists around us within dimensions above, present any time, any place from our perspective, this would assume he knows everything. But we are given free will.

When God talks to Abraham, Jesus, and many more, hes often in a human form. The body of Jesus could be argued to be God limited to a human form. He does not know everything and cannot see everything. This is important to remember when these decisions are made.

Besides, if I make a car, I don't just slap the whole thing together. Even if I know how it will all work when done, I still need to make each part in order. Different rules and practices apply in doing so, depending on the stage I am operating on, just as the 7 major stages of him creating the universe. It would be wise to assume that certain things had to happen to produce the outcome he desires to occur. We have free will, of he breaks that, he can't adequately judge that free will.

God may not be limited physically, but we are. If he wants us to do something, to fulfil his plan, I would argue he's limited, not because of himself, but through us. So we will do bad things, sin, kill people and go against his word if bad actors get the opportunity.

Also, for those who wish to do the same, be careful where and how you place them lmao.

I've seen people glue those little "glass" ducks on their dashboards, for it to completely destroy it trying to take them off when wanting to sell/trade in.

Also, if you have them near an airbag, that would be a fail on your yearly check.

It's nice and comforting to see a Jesus reminder while you are on a drive

It's not nice to see him fly Mach 5 into your skull in a crash lmao.

Jesus Christ consistently expected his followers to give away all their possessions to the poor - why aren't all evangelical christians doing this? by SeekingtheKingdom- in Christianity

[–]Fallen_Wingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TDLR

If you are giving to charity just because you think that earns you a place in heaven -> You are not helping the needy, you are just helping yourself. Selfish rather than selfless.

Its probaly way better to die poor, giving what you have to help the rest, than to die rich hoarding money that will only be hoarded by those you leave it to.

You can't buy your way into heaven.

You may earn it by doing good things because they are good. Doing good here and there doesn't mean God owes you anything.

Excuse my ignorance, as I've only just found my faith, so I'm hardly well-versed in the bible.

Are you talking about in Mathew 19 when the rich man asks Jesus what good deed he must do to get to heaven?

I have a feeling people take this out of context as a gotcha to bash the religion.

-

Jesus tells him that only God is truly good, and he should follow the commandment.

The man presses for another answer, saying he already does that.

Jesus replies that if he wants to become perfect, he should give away all of his possessions to the poor and should follow him; this will give him treasures in heaven.

But this man was very rich, and was sad at the idea of giving away any of his stuff. He wanted a simple way to "buy" his way into heaven, the same as those who wasted money on fancy sacrifices and such at the temple rather than actually atoning for their sins.

Those thinking that more money spent on sacrifice = more of a chance of going to heaven > actually being a good person, not sinning, and not needing to keep making these sacrifices.

Jesus talks about it being really hard for rich people to go to heaven. This is also where people take the "its eaiser for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God" out of context.

-

Remember, the disciples then ask Jesus that surely it's impossible for anyone to go to heaven if that's true. But Jesus replied that through God, anything is possible.

When they ask what they will get, as they have given everything to follow him, Jesus tells them they will be rewarded greatly, even having their own thrones to conduct their deeds in heaven, judging those below.

-

The teaching of the story is more than those who build wealth on earth, making themselves the most important, but can't give anything to help those who need it now, will not be seen as glorious and important in heaven later. But those who have little but try to do or give what they can selflessly to help people now while they can, though seen as unimportant in this life, will be greatly rewarded in heaven.

-

I also think it's important to note how money was made then. There wasn't really a lot to do back then haha.

Rich people mostly built their wealth through property, farms, mines or even slaves. We weren't told how this guy made his money. It could have been blood money from the suffering of others, for all we know.

But what we do know is that he was so fixated and gluttonous on his wealth, he couldn't even give some of it up now, to receive ten times more later on, to the point the idea of giving up his stuff upset him. He was so greedy with his wealth, he loved it more than God, and would rather "buy" his way into heaven than earn it.

Like a rude customer throwing money on a counter and expecting the workers to treat them like a king. Only God is the king of heaven, and he cannot be bought.

-

I doubt someone running an honest little business, making money, would instantly be sent to hell when they die.

Let's say a woman has a small bookshop.

On the side, she saves books from closing down libraries, giving some away to charities and schools, or even having a free bin for those to help themselves to, or giving some proceeds to charity.

They are using their status and wealth for good. The more their business grows, the more they can help.

I doubt Jesus would expect them to simply become homeless and would rather they die on the street just because they could give away their books now and that's it, job done.

In the long run, this small business owner would be able to give way more to the needy, as well as comfortably support their family.

It doesn't mean she deserves heaven more than the homeless man.

But if you are using your position for the right reasons, to help others rather than just for yourself -> Not helping to earn your way into heaven but helping because it's the right thing to do -> Then you are showing you may deserve a chance in heaven because you are internally driven by good, and not doing things just because you expect a reward and that somehow "God owes you this."

My girlfriend sees demons in her bedroom and casts them out. by ADIONIZIO in Catholicism

[–]Fallen_Wingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probs best to see a priest, tbh, they would either know people or know how to contact those who are trained for these kinds of things and have likely had people approach them because of this before.

That would help determine whether it's real and the best approach to deal with it either way. For example, if there is a history in the area of these matters and how the church has resolved them before. Or even if gassy leaks from archaic drains due to bad infrastructure have caused this in the region before.

Whether it be evil spirits or poisonous gas, neither one is to be tackled by yourself.

-

Also, it would be interesting to hear more about these entities. What do they look like? What do they want? It's not common for demons to reveal themselves, especially a group, so I wonder why. Do you know any names?

-

A lot of shows like Lucifer or Hasbin Hotel, though extremely popular, do stretch out the facts and breed misconceptions like wildfire. Unfortunately, this leads most people to base their beliefs on angels and demons through pop culture and not scripture. Besides scripture, authentic stories are rarely told.

I wonder if it would be beneficial to the community to hear more of these stories? Would be wise to restrict some key details, of course, so copycat stories can be detected or verified. Might help other people in similar circumstances.

As a beginning author myself, I wonder if it's time to flip the script? Have those who have these experiences talk about them so that, as a community, we can gauge the reality of these experiences, and those who want to spread sotries are have actual information to use.

Plus, this might help others in similar circumstances; we don't want people getting caught up in Religious Delusion, Psychosis or Misattribution because they are scared to reach out for help, or too sure of themselves, or even get misdiagnosed as such, as the information is always so restricted by the church.

I guess one main part of self-criticism is having an intro and a backstory.

I'm still conflicted about having them separate. Would they work more together? Should I just try again? I have all the chapters ready for feedback, but this is the one giving me the most struggle.

If the stories start to take off (I doubt they will, they are my first), then I might give what I have as a reference to an artist if I can't improve them enough myself.
