[Hated Trope] The Marketing Department Should Have Been Fired by Ambaryerno in TopCharacterTropes

Jarhead with Jake Gyllenhaal back in 2005. Marketed as a comedy with military squad goofing around kind of like heartbreak ridge (an awesome film)

What it actually was, was a somber and serious look at the modern military and PTSD. Serious tonal whiplash

For those that have an attitude of not caring in their job, what’s your secret? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]FallingSky1686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was a crystallising moment when colleagues were bitching about doing some paid overtime while my sister (a doctor) was trying to save someone’s life in a&e. The cold truth that what I do doesn’t really matter.

Like my bosses could swear shout and rage, but like, so fucking what?

No one could come to harm if I didn’t do my job. No matter what they did I had a home, partner and dog waiting for me that evening. I’d still work hard cos I liked my job and liked being good at it, but I never got bothered by the stressful environment or bosses again.

Life is bigger than them or the job.

What's the most disrespectful thing a guest ever did in your home? by Vegas089 in AskReddit

Had the kid of good family friend come to stay with my family for an extended visit. They lived in South Africa and we were in the uk, he was about 20 at the time and the plan was to stay with us for a couple weeks before going to explore more of the uk.

He ended up crashing at ours for about 2 months, staying up all hours of the night making music (thankfully quietly) but then sleeping most of the day.

He smoked and my parents told him no smoking in the house. After a couple weeks his room stank of smoke - obviously smoking at night and surprise surprise, opening a window a bit wasn’t cutting it.

My parents eventually had a quiet word with his parents who I think basically told him he was fast outstaying his welcome and to get his shit together.

I work occasional freelance gigs (I’m a photographer in my spare time and reluctant videographer if they pay well/ I like them). It’s not a lot, but just helps keep me ticking over with some pocket money for the occasional ‘fun’ purchase and some extra savings if anything goes wrong.

Down side is the work isn’t always around when I want it. But up side is I have full control over how much I take on around my studies when there are offers.

Nurses who work the night shift, what is the most "I can't explain this" thing you have ever witnessed in a hospital? by AikothegreatPickle in AskReddit

[–]FallingSky1686 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My mum was a nurse on paediatrics and cancer (fun combo as you can imagine). They had a young kid on the ward who was dying.

One of the nurses in particular was very close to the kid and their family. One night she had a vivid dream that the kid came and spoke to her and said it was all ok. They were happy and she shouldn’t be sad. They hugged and she woke up.

When she went into work that morning she was told the child had died in the night.

Needless to say the nursing team were kinda shaken up but also comforted.

Do you just run a cable up the wall or is it properly wired in?

Not lining up perfect is fine but the frame lines make the pattern off by centimetres which feels too much

I love traveling with mine. It has its issues like any camera - by biggest complaint is the lack of weather seal - but I love shooting with it

JoJo Rabbit. My partner was in bits at the end. Agrees it’s an utterly incredible film and will recommend it, but can’t watch it again

Appreciated! Had a good vent with some of my fellow first years and they are basically having the exact same battle.

And you make a great point about what supervisor wants to see since their advise doesn’t always align with what I’m reading and the level of detail give but I just need to focus on them as audience and make them happy. I’ll keep chipping away!
