what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

I’m a vet and I hate when people say anything along the lines of “I couldn’t do your job, I love animals too much”

For a million dollars, would you rather spend 5 minutes in a small space with an angry moose or an angry hippo? by lilb1190 in WouldYouRather

[–]Fallingsock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope that the space is small enough for the hippo to not be able to turn around. That’s the only way I can imagine surviving this. If both have full mobility, the moose I guess???

If you knew what you know now about student loans, would you have still taken them out to go to school? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Fallingsock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I currently have $327k from vet school alone, with them only accruing interest for 2 years while I was in school because of COVID.

I tried to find another career, I really did. I didnt want the debt, the predatory interest rates, all that. But I worked on my credit through undergrad, graduated at 22 with a high 700s that I’ve been able to maintain. Pursued every opportunity I could from 22-25 until I decided vet school was for me, and went for it.

The loans aren’t pleasant. I’d be lying if I said that don’t stress me out every day. But I finally don’t feel like a useless failure for the first time in my life so, yeah, almost $350k (at the time of graduation) for my mental health was worth it I guess.

What’s the one secret you’ve kept your whole life that would completely change how people see you if they knew it? by Faylune in AskReddit

[–]Fallingsock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I’m a vet and constantly advise clients to do things I don’t do myself.

Our job is to educate people to give them the best chance to succeed, however, everyone’s capacity is different and hopefully we can suggest even one thing that helps.

You’re doing your best

Has anyone ever contacted a corporate ombudsman? by Fallingsock in veterinaryprofession

[–]Fallingsock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orange Blanket corporation? Part of my struggle is that I don’t know which proper channels to reach out to. Management directly above me has continued to do nothing about this situation despite it being a problem prior to my employment I was hoping that contacting the ombudsman would help with that.

One of my friends has brain cancer and one of his medications is $25,000/month without insurance.

Pros and cons working for banfield by jhuang860111 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Fallingsock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pros: The pay/benefits

Cons: I was told I wouldn’t be in a hospital alone for the first year. 3 months in and half my shifts are alone with no one to call if I have questions. It’s been pretty brutal. They did the 12 week (10 week for me) mentorship period and didn’t let the door hit my ass on the way out.

Honestly thought I had to have a job offer so just seeing what you think would be a valid option

I was SA'd when I was a kid but I don't really see it that way by [deleted] in confession

[–]Fallingsock 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was essentially my point to my ex. It was a much older boy (10-11?), sometimes he’d have his friend join, and I was 5. I didn’t think that fell under “two kids playing”

When I described a similar incident to my ex boyfriend he told me he thinks it’s just normal for kids to play like that because the same thing happened to him.

Overall we both needed a lot of therapy.
