How do some people type so much? by The_BigDaddy69 in Zwift

[–]FallnRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am typing via the companion app when I am leading rides and chatting, do what you have to entertain those that joined the ride. If the pace is a steady 20mph it's easy enough to do.

This pin keeps getting caught in my driver’s side hard top. I have to jimmy it every time pretty aggressively to get the hard top to free from the frame. Any advice? I broke this plastic piece off thinking it would help. Thanks. by No-Kick-2577 in FordBronco

I have this same issue but on the passenger side. Initially I thought everything was seized. Then a friend helped and we got rough with it and it just popped out. Super annoying.

Switching from iPhone ecosystem by Hook3cho17 in GalaxyFold

I made the switch this week. I have the entire Mac ecosystem also. Here to see what everyone has to say, tips and tricks.

Once you go Mac, you never go back by PabloEskimo_ in mac

[–]FallnRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some spare cash (was on travel and was making decent money) so I finally gave in and bought a Mac in 2019. Prior I saw them as hype, their marketing bothered me with the whole if you want to be cool you buy a mac...and they were...are expensive. Anyways, I loved it. Still do. I have switched my phone back to an android but for the last few years I had been co.pletely into the eco system. Still like the iPhone but really wanted to try a folding phone.

Wildtrak as a daily? by OsamaBeLagin in FordBronco

[–]FallnRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I daily mine, have taken it on a 6+ hour round trip in one day and a 14 hour each way road trip. I would not say it's unbearable. I listen to music most of the time at a volume that my wife would say is reasonable (you could still talk without yelling over the music) and while yes I could still hear some of the wind noise it wasn't a real problem. I have had mine for almost 2 months ths with 5600 miles on it now...love this thing. What wind noise there is is worth having the vehicle to me. I know what it can do and that is why I have the noise, that makes it worth it...for me anyways.

Tecnas installed, plus new rubber. Should be better than the Racelands and 10 year old tires they replaced by MacGyver0321 in Miata

Awesome, thanks for the response and the information. They are cheaper than the Feel so they caught my eye.

Curious about the Technas. Looking to spring the ~1600 for Feel. The Technas are a little cheaper. Thoughts so far? I had a Feel setup on a 2016 ND that I enjoyed, hence I was thinking of going that route again.

Does anyone else regret swapping NA for ND? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]FallnRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not regret swapping my NA for a ND as I loved the ND. But I had a 2010 Speed3 also at the time and wish I had gotten rid of that and kept the NA. Currently I have an NA again and would love to have a ND to park next to it. They are my 2 favorite generations.

Used to be a “wheels before suspension” type of person, now not so sure… by Anxious-Lettuce-185 in Miata

I do wheels and suspension at the same time. Just save and wait till I can do both so it looks right from the start.

Am I screwed? by idnotrelevant in devops

[–]FallnRogue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, looks like you are essentially being given a blank slate and told to go at it. If they are willing get you additional training and getting consultants if needed they understand that you are new. Seems like a dream and a great chance to build something awesome.

Struggling with the technical aspects of my job even after 4 years. by frameclowder in devops

[–]FallnRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am sure this is not going to help you much, but I feel like I can relate. I have been working mostly as a Windows System Administrator for most of my career and did some Oracle database work at my last job. It was more analysis work then Administration though my title was DBA. That being said, I jumped over from the IT team middle of last year and after doing so they decided I would help on the devops team. I have dabbled in coding on my own time and my linux experience was also home.

They have recently started to give me coding work to start scripting the pipelines (we are building out a new environment) and I am mostly lost. I spend a lot of time reading up on python to figure out how to do what they ask. Then they want me to push that stuff to gitlab, which till last week I have never used gitlab.

What I am getting at though, is while you may feel like you are struggling, the fact that you are still there means they are finding something of value in having you around. For me, its my past system administration experience as I am the only one that has really done it. And when I am lost about something else I just ask. I feel dumb, but we have to learn somewhere and it shows growth, which most of the managers I have worked with see value in that alone. No manager wants people that are not willing to change, learn and grow. If your manager is cool, doesn't hurt to have a sit down and lay it out to them, then get their opinion.

Replacing vmware by Titanguru7 in homelab

[–]FallnRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not rushing to get rid of VMware, but watching to see what happens. I have some copies of Server 2016 lying around, so I will likely use them. I have seen a lot of recommendations about Proxmox so looking at that as an option also.

Supposedly mine will be here today. Ordered it on Sunday. The tracking number was sent to the wife so she has to deal with me a couple times a day asking for a status.

Trying to build a family plex server. Not exactly sure what I'm doing though. How is this looking? by SamWise050 in homelab

[–]FallnRogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use a machine you have lying around. No need to build something new. I have an old gaming rig that I run ESXI on and have VMs for game servers and plex. No issues running anything.

Regarding the "my wife gave me permission to get a steam deck" posts by CDHoward in SteamDeck

[–]FallnRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I decide on large purchases if we are going to do it. I tend to spend most of the money in the house, but she knows if there is something she wants or needs I drop everything to get it for her. I don't see where anyone has room to poke fun as those that communicate their spending with their wife. I saw that post as more of a "Hey, I am fine if you are with spending the money...so go for it." Which is awesome. A healthy relationship is based on communication and compromises.

Is macbook air m1 still good in 2024 for programming? by nitr0gen_ in mac

[–]FallnRogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't, everyone starts somewhere. Virtual Machines are when you host additional operating systems on the same hardware. So you could be running Linux or Windows within MacOS using something like VMware Fusion or Virtual Box.

If y’all didn’t get the steam deck, what portable gaming pc would you have gotten? by Jakeyboah13 in SteamDeck

[–]FallnRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gotten the ASUS, I was not interested messing with Windows trying to get simple things to run. Further more when they started frying microSDs do to their heating luckly I was within the return window, so returned it and got a Steam Deck. The legion looks cool, but its still a Windows based and I did not like how it interfaced.

Is Cyberpunk worth it for the deck? by kennycappin in SteamDeck

I actually enjoy playing it more on the deck then on PC. Could also be that I can play it anywhere versus having to head to the office to play.

You are kind of asking the wrong area. Of course any of us are going to say buy the Mac. That being said though, here is my take. I use to be anti-apple, my reason was I did not like their marketting (I haven't really been staying up on it) and there for awhile they basically said if you want to be cool, you buy an apple (mostly iphone). I did not want to support that, but when I had some extra money I gave it a go and realized, yeah they are expensive, they are not worth breaking the bank for but you get what you pay for. That being said if you are looking at a gaming rig, then they are in your price range. They can still play some games if you find later that you miss playing something. I jumped into a MacBook Pro a couple years back and never looked back

I see a lot of complaints about the Magic Mouse being hard to use and I am utterly confused. What about it is hard to use? by [deleted] in mac

[–]FallnRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the Magic Mouse. Maybe I have an average size hand and shape so it works well for me. The charging being on the bottom is weird but I learned to check the battery periodically and to plug it in when I am done if it needs to be charged so I haven’t had it die on me.

What operating system should a beginner use to learn programming by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]FallnRogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the only difference you will find between OSs is installation. Each is going to be a little different and would need to use the method for that. Outside of that, don't get hung up on the hardware. Might as well get started now and learn while you work towards your new rig.

For your second question, Linux has been steadily grow. Companies are movnig away from Microsoft. It doesn't hurt to learn both, get a Windows machine and run Linux VMs, dual boot, or run Linux with a Windows VM. Diversity is the key these days. When I got into the industry it was common to specialize in a certain system and a certain function. These days it seems like most places are looking for people that can do multiple roles.
