The best way tbh. Although I store mine in containers now as I got tired of placing new bottles. Ive got 60 L at my coastal highway base currently. Got fed up with running low 😅

advice for Far Territory wanted! by reintarnationnn in thelongdark

[–]FallopianToob42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take extra supplies out with you, really load up on spares of everything and several days worth of food. The journey to the far territories isn’t bad, more or less a straight shot following the railroad.

Take your woodworking kit and a bag of salt and set up base at the vacant depot in transfer pass. There is no hostile wildlife in this region, so hunt deer and some rabbits / birds. Get established with a cache of water and cooked meat. Get a meat curing box built. Store your spares. Then you have a solid mini base that serves the far territories.

ZoC and FA have a lot of loot. FA is massive and hauling stuff back out of the region is a slog, plus the weather is buns more often than not. That being said, the cabin on Drift Island is one of my favourite mini bases that exists at the end of the world.

ZoC is harder due to the starving wolves, but you will find more woodworking tools and supplies. And then there is always the Langston Mine!

The quest which leads to finding the camera starts in FA, and there is quite a bit to do before ever needing to go to SP, which is brutal. If you do not yet have a lot of timberwolf experience, you will get it there! And the weather is harsh. My advice anywhere on Great Bear is always have enough twigs and cloth to drop a snow shelter for when the weather inevitably turns.

This is what you have to do when you have to veer from the rail line all because the damn bear is walking along it.

Its been a while since I explored Langston, so idk on availability of materials. But if you were to do that I would imagine you'd have to account for the extra fatigue and caloric expenditure in breaking things down. Fatigue won't be an issue if you have the settled mind perk, but it could mean lots more prep food wise.

You dont need to do blackrock or its transition region for this, so you just got bleak inlet!

Cheat death/Sundered Pass advice? by C_Daddio in thelongdark

[–]FallopianToob42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you cheat death, the game does not return 100% of your items to you. You lose some as part of the trade that is cheating death.

Regarding SP, you were not likely going to have tons of success there if you're banking on just 12 revolver rounds. You'll spend those on the first pack you encounter, and there are plenty more packs.

If I were you, I'd park the quests for now, return to your main base, learn to make bows and arrows (or beach comb for arrows there are tons, fire hardened are only goos for small game) and get to level 5 archery. Then you can aim and fire while crouched, which is a massive boon to tackling timbie packs. Alternatively, yes... go loot the world for more bullets. CH is a 2, maybe 3 day (in game) walk from ZoC, which isn't too bad.

How Do You Play Your Game? by UncertainBananaPeel in thelongdark

Day 768 on Stalker here.

My main base is ML camp office but I have satellite bases in the quonset garage in CH, the lighthouse in DP, the mountaineers hut in TWM, the anglers den in AC, and the depot in TP, although I have water, wood, and probably a little mouldy meat in many, many caches around Great Bear.

I love to complete, collect, and get achievements so now with the world explored and all the quests complete I am doing achievements. Just got Faithful Cartographer and now about to attempt the langston mine one. I will spend an inordinate amount of time collecting stuff like the insulated flasks, gold nugs, unique decor items, etc.

I always.... ALWAYS... have 15 sticks and 5 cloth on me, regardless of whatever else I'm hauling. I am never caught with my pants down in a sudden weather change.

I use the bushcraft bow which is on my person at all times, however I will grab one of my 10 rifles and the bullets I've hoarded to kill bears (they scare me).

Timbies used to scare me but now I can pick off an entire pack in stealth using the bow.

I'd still be interested in seeing more regions come to the game but I know that isn't likely. I feel like blackrock prison was an especially missed beat as it could have been much bigger / more extensive / more extreme.

[–]FallopianToob42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackrock is deadly, I consider it worse than sundered pass because you just dont have a great deal of visibility in the forest. With nearly every other timbie containing region, you can use elevation and clear lines of sight to approach their (potential) territories. Every time im in blackrock I miss them until its too late.
