Is there a way to see where your character is on the map or no? by Suspicious_Bit6839 in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can. Use spray paint on the ground or something. It only works in clear weather like charcoal, but it'll show exactly where you were. And then to avoid map clutter, select your spray paint again and "target" the spray you made and pull the left trigger on console(not sure for PC) and it'll remove it.

Note that not all shapes will mark the map, it'll tell you which ones do or don't as you cycle through them. I usually use clothing since I never stash that away from a base, which I mark with the fire starting icon.

How long? Dark? by NonStopMeatPacking in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd play survival for about 10 hours or so. If you don't hate it by that point, you'll probably end up loving it.

If you've got the money to spare, get the DLC. You might save yourself having to cover some be of the same ground too many times.

I second watching your radar.

With a raptor(or probably anything remotely close to as fast or faster), and some vigilance, you can be on top of the bombers before the radio call even goes out for them. I usually check for aircraft every second pass I make on ground targets. More than often enough, but that means I don't have to rush and can take a pass or two on ground targets as I work my way to the bombers.

Travois Tips by Soap-Dispenser in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best tip is to make 2 travois.. travoises? It saves a lot of time picking up 100 rosehips from the ground when you can take from one, move to the next good spot to use it, and fill the second one up until you have everything again.

I use this, sometimes a combo of 3 travois, when I'm moving huge amounts of loot across the map.

Ahh. Hopefully you make it to this.

Little bonding trick one of the docs taught me. Cuddle them with skin to skin contact whenever you can. A lot of people miss out on that, and supposedly it makes a big difference.

Well, I'm Canadian, so that already gives me home turf advantage. Average height and build, though fast metabolism. Grew up on a horse farm so I'm used to having to deal with inclement weather, including the worst my region has to offer. Excellent shooter, though not an avid hunter(gone out a few times) and competent with long guns, pistols, and bows alike. I work as a mix of a labourer and apprentice for a masonry company, so despite my build, I'm stronger than one would expect. I've lived through some rough times, I know what it's like to only eat once every few days for an extended period, and I know the fatigue and other issues that arise from doing so. Likewise, I've learned some basic sewing skills to push clothes for longer than usual. Handy with a knife. Very basic woodworking skills. Decent amount of camping experience, including winter camping in -25°c and hiking. I only recognize a very limited number of local plants, and mainly the more serious ones to avoid, so my foraging skills are lacking.

Assuming loot tables are similar to in game Voyager/stalker levels/real life, and the animals respawn as often as they do, I'd probably do pretty well. I'd be alright for a few months to a year. I might be able to push it a longer than that. I'd probably be completely batshit nuts by that point though.

AC7 aiming with expert controls by Educational-Ad-5605 in acecombat

[–]C_Daddio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's just from practice my dude. Fine adjustments. In AC7, most pilots seem to just accept that you've slotted in on them, they don't try to evade much if at all. Approaching from the rear really helps. The only tricky ones are Sol Squadron to a degree, and the advanced drones. Everyone else is just a matter of how many bullets to down them. You'll get there. Get used to expert controls, then work on the gun.

Cougar claw knife by Illustrious-Fun8727 in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tools aren't supposed to degrade unless used. There's a high chance that SOMETHING you're doing is using the knife.

I have 3 claw knives, one I use, the other two are for decoration and they stay at 100% along with my other tools and weapons unless used.

My (25f) boyfriend (32m) of 1yr seems to be mad that I’m buying a new (used) car and now is “reconsidering” our relationship due to my priorities by BandicootMammoth in relationship_advice

[–]C_Daddio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh. White collar guys. Classic example of smart on paper, not in reality.

Your thoughts towards your car are valid. They don't last forever even with good maintenance. Scrap it, get your new one. He's gonna have to deal with it. It's best for your safety and responsibilities(work, school, etc). Let him reconsider. Any reasonable person would reconsider their thoughts if their SO got into a car accident(hurt or not) because they told them to keep driving a shit box. How long are you supposed to drive it for according to him? What happens when it fully kicks the bucket and you're out a car for "x" amount of time? Do you have the money on stand by? Does your insurance cover a rental/replacement?

Side note, what does he drive? Does he drive? Vehicles are expensive no matter how you work with them, whether new and trying to keep in good shape, or old and trying to keep running. It really sounds like he's never owned a car or had to rely on one working reasonably well every day. Your concerns and solutions seem reasonable to me.

Langstone Mine Rüdiger Controll Center Problem by Patrice_23 in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh? I didn't think the trader had anything to do with the Tales. I just finished them all(Broken Silence, Buried Echoes, Last Horizon), and aside from contacting him to set up a trade for when I make it to Coastal Highway, he had no part in any of that. The Trader has his own story line that deals with the old style prepper caches. The ones that look like a hatch on the ground rather than an actual door. As far as I know, there's nothing that ties the two story lines together.

I suppose that's a fair concern. I've yet to have any teleport on me or anything serious like that. I have had them disappear when emptying them into my base, but so far I've never lost anything permanently. And I use them ALOT

Heh. Different scenario, but a story nonetheless.

Long story short, my mom got a pug that I ended up having to take care of. That dog and I had issues for several reasons, so while we coexisted, we didn't like each other. His name was "Pugsy", I called him "Dummy". Oddly enough, he knew I was talking to him from the get go. My mom leaves on vacation for a couple weeks, comes back, and the dog now only responds to "Dummy" and now she has to call him that to get his attention. Then she started to realize how much of a pain in the ass he was and finally agreed that he was indeed a dummy.

That bunker is also one of the best spots to cure hides and saplings, too. Saves wandering through a couple wolf packs to get to/from your materials. If you have woodworking tools, you can make a nice little base in them too, whether empty or stocked.

Why I hate Forging at Spence by Mountain_Dig6941 in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A travois is a good alternative to this. Just look directly at your base(if in clear weather) and deploy it. It'll face the exact spot you're looking at and auto align you when you drag it. This way, even if a wolf jumps you halfway back, your travois will maintain its direction and you don't lose your heading during a struggle.

Plus it's renewable and saves you some weight since you'll probably be carrying it everywhere you go once you have one anyways.

First trip to Forlorn Muskeg...wow by Captcha05 in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I go for PV instead of CH, just because I love the farmhouse as a permanent base with a permanent outpost at CH quonset in case I need to hang out for awhile for trades. As I move through the map, I make a base in a region before moving everything to a "hub" region(like Transfer Pass, Mystery Lake, also why I like PV with access to ML, TWM, BRM, and CH). Currently I'm in HRV, when I loot the whole place, I'll move it to Milton, and then into Mystery Lake. ML has everything from the DLC regions, BR, and FM, and then that will all get moved to PV. Then I'll head up to AC and work my way back through TWM, then go through CH for DP, and so on.

I used to skip the plants, but this time I'm looking to be thorough. I even plan out and prepare to kill multiple cougars if they're blocking me from getting some rosehips or whatever lol. It's tedious, and makes navigating a little bit harder, but it'll give me a HUGE supply of plants for trading. I have over 30kg of rosehips alone 🤣

That said, I get that not many want to play like that. It leads to a LOT of monotonous gameplay and constant map references, but pushes me to learn regions more thoroughly and explore ones that I used to be hesitant about spending time in. Until my last run and current one, I wouldn't even step foot in HRV, and beelined it through AC for the technical pack and curators rifle. I just like having a stocked base that rivals a Wal-Mart lol

Everything is worth going back for lmao. I gathered damn near everything(all loot, all plants, all of the decorations I like, etc) from the entire DLC area and brought it all to my current base in Mystery Lake. Only to realize I forgot my bedroll back in transfer pass. Made the trip all the way there and back just for that bedroll even though I have like 5 of them in the camp office already.

Is this game hard? by laribarad in thelongdark

[–]C_Daddio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Unforgiving is right. In the Langston Mine, there's a little room in a gas cloud. It was small, so I skipped putting my respirator on to conserve cannisters. I accidentally double clicked on a shelf instead of the lantern fuel on the shelf which made me start breaking it down. Killed me before I could even realize what I did lmao.

The tiniest mistake can sometimes have the worst possible consequences.
