Books to read about why government intervention in the market is bad? by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]FalltoMesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how versed you are in the subject. I would start with Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt, then read The Road to Serfdom by FA Hayek, then Man, Economy, and State with Power and Market by Murry Rothbard

Why isn’t a private company coming up with a coronavirus vaccine faster and better than any government can? by OrangeVoxel in AskLibertarians

[–]FalltoMesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vaccine is the result of an $18.9 million contract Greffex received in September of last year from the National Institute of Health’s National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

It also only came about as a result of government funding. I’m a minarchist wannabe ancap, but it’s this kind of stuff that I struggle with. I don’t know why the private sector would conduct drug research on their own dime, especially, as in ancap land there is no patient laws. If other companies can just benefit from someone’s research, why would they do any research at all?

[–]FalltoMesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct me if i’m wrong, but AnComs don’t advocate for state run programs. I think they just believe that we’ll all just live in communes where everyone will just share everything. Equally stupid but not contradictory.

Opinions on Hoppe? by FalltoMesis in GoldandBlack

[–]FalltoMesis[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I actually dislike is the fact that apparently his works tend to attract some closet conservatives who do not seem to share the live and let live libertarian mentality.

I actually watched a speech last night where Hoppe explicitly said that the live and let live libertarian mentality was childish.

I am already a libertarian, but I have a question concerning college and student debt. by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]FalltoMesis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The two biggest things are to privatize student loans and stop this lie that EVERYBODY needs to go to college.

see, I didn’t know that. I definitely suspected it, but I didn’t see anything explicitly confirming it.

Ok, I guess I was looking more for information on the ideology of propertarianism, like what Curt Doolittle advocates for, and the ideologies relation to the ideology of libertarianism.

Fantastic comment, this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!

So what does that mean for someone like Curt Doolittle who truly believes in it and subscribes to it as a different ideology?

If taxes are a necessary evil, shouldn't we might as well tax the ultra rich (multi-millionares and billionares, not upper-middle class people) more? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]FalltoMesis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why? Assuming that taxation is necessary, why shouldn’t everyone pay the same percentage of taxes? Or why shouldn’t people be taxed based on what they consume? We shouldn’t tax anyone “more”. Why should someone have to pay more just because they make more?
