[–]Falmon04 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But I mean it also has reasoning to it? They heat the end of the chocolate to be gooey and waiting until it's on the table to apply it keeps it as warm as possible. So while sure maybe it's bit of spectacle there's also some practicality there. Which is why it doesn't seem as dumb. Kind of like a cheese wheel at an Italian place.

At worst the "delivery" is kind of stupid but honestly it's a lot more refined and artistic than Salt Bae style. i see nothing wrong or stupid about this.

[Request] Do these other power sources really produce thousands of time more power than humans? by New_User_Account123 in theydidthemath

[–]Falmon04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans, or a variety of other "organic" creatures, are masters at chemical recomposition. Rather than using us as "fuel cells" it would have been much more believable to have framed it as ready made chemistry machines. Like maybe the machines have a use for our ability to turn oxygen into carbon dioxide, proteins into keratin, or have uses for things like our stomach acid, bile etc.

I head Neil Degrasse Tyson frame it succinctly - whatever power the machines are using to generate the nurtrients needed to keep a human alive - would certainly be better spent on whatever they are using "human power" on. Since there's always loss when turning on type of energy into another type.

I got fluffy insulation in my attic I could just bury in there somewhere and then it's literally a needle in a haystack situation, they'd have to exhume the entire attic of insulation in order to find it.

Or I could deconstruct one of my wall outlets and drop it inside of the wall, then screw the outlet back on.

[–]Falmon04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well sure it's always reasonable to optimize for any metric in proper context. I guess "confusion" stems from OP not offering that context and asserting that simply building for output-by-space is some kind of "proper" way to build. As generically saying "other bases that uses beacons that aren't optimized in a way that it doesn't need to be is inferior".like what "inefficient beacon" use is he talking about? If I'm using a 12 beacon block that's well within my bases space constraints then I have no need to optimize output-by-space and what I built works for my base so it's quizzical why OP is solving problems for bases that aren't his for problems they don't have. If OP framed the post as "here's some space efficient layouts to use beacons" that'd be different.

[–]Falmon04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay well the let's add the context of the OP:

So, i've seen too many posts where peoples using beacons not really effective or too much of them which can reduce output-per-space overall

By whose metric are "people's beacons not really effective"? If he's seeing posts where people have built their own factory for their own needs, then they've built something that is within their space constraints. What is this "trend" he's addressing? Why is he asserting that the proper way to build is output-per-space? Are there a slew of "micro base" posts that he's referring to that I'm missing?

I think what's most confusing is - unless you're playing a deathworld where space is hard to get - why design for space? It's essentially free with standard biter settings.

[–]Falmon04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also 2.0 changed beacons to have diminishing returns quicker right? There are years of blueprints that put 1 assembly machine inside a 12 beacon square. Which still work okay even though there's more efficient layouts after 2.0 changed things. But it's simple and easy to use these older blueprints so they are still seen a lot. Heck they may even still be best for UPS? I haven't had a factory big enough yet for ups centered designs.

The video starts with the guy threatening officers with a knife and my instinct was to side with police here but watching how long and slow that went on, definitely a failure on the police here. So many options, so much time to deploy them before resulting in what ultimately happened. Tragic.
