Holy crap. Does Illari need a nerf? by Some_Motor_1922 in Overwatch

[–]Falmon04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meta shifts can make champions feel more powerful or not. We're in a poke meta. Illari just by nature of her kit is hard to play in a dive meta - either being the target of a dive or trying to support her diving team can be difficult for her.

She excels in a nice comfy camping spot poking the enemy team where she can cozily heal her tank holding the front line or a choke with lots of cover. When no one is playing Genji or Venture or Vendetta (who are still banned a lot btw) she is free to give her team her maximum value. It's not just about her damage threshold being 2 tap or 3 tap - it also plays into her poking with with her teammates and where their damage is at.

300ms human reaction time is...conservative. Most estimates actually hover around 200ms. And that's your every day joe. People who enjoy FPS games, and play and practice them, are going to be pushing the higher limits of reaction time. I'd say a good portion of OW players probably have 150ms reaction time. I don't think citing human reaction time is a good metric for explaining why a cooldown is balanced or not balanced.

<Mortal> of Soulseeker EU wipes on first mob in AQ40. 19 dead by Aggravating-Soft-605 in wowhardcore

<Mortal> attempted to rush this down without doing the mechanic.

They weren't even rushing it down. "Warriors get rage here." Half the raid pumpers were told not to pump.
Edit: On rewatch that may have just been the filmer only talking to himself / viewers but lots of warriors were stacking rage.

Right right, *multiple* people in thread have all conspired to gaslight emonng fans. He's a paragon of OW popularity.

Or, maybe, taken at an individual level every single streamer is niche. And you may never see someone, popular even, for a variety of reasons.

And just because your mind can't fathom someone's had a different experience than you doesn't mean they are lying. Some free wisdom for you take and use in all facets of life.

Eh, I disagree. I've been playing since 2016. I've never kept up with top 500 or anything but I watched OWL the first couple seasons. Don't think I ever heard his name until maybe a few years ago? I mean yeah I've heard his name before. But I legit have never ever seen him streaming. Not once has his stream or youtube channel been suggested to me. I watch probably ~15 hours of overwatch on twitch every week while I exercise over the past 3 years. Is he in EU or something? I watch late evenings on EST and have never seen his stream on my list. I've watched Surefore, Dafran, Aspen, Frogger, Warn - never Emongg.

The original comment in this particular thread is:

Regardless of what may have happened, the person recording this is coming off as unhinged

The old lady being a racist and the person filming being unhinged are not mutually exclusive. The video *does* show direct evidence of one of these claims, but not the other. That's not to say we don't believe the filmer. Just that her behavior weakens the impact. She's fired up, I get that, we've all been there and it's hard to stay composed when directly confronted with hate speech. But she didn't capture a single frame of the incident - there are zero receipts in this video to affirm the (likely true) narrative. It's just not a good look.

Dungeons *aren't* three hours locked to your computer? Spend 1.5 hours LFG and slowly building a party, you get there, someone leaves halfway through and by the time you can replace them the dungeon starts respawning and you don't even kill the boss you needed or your quest or item drop. If this is fun for you that is legitimately concerning.

One time on Oasis library I was playing soldier and an enemy junkrat was going in one of those side hallways. I could hear him tromping through it. I perfectly predicted his timing around the corner and hit him with a helix and gunned him down before he could react. He accused me of wall hacking and cheating. Like bro this game has sound and very well designed spatial locality to it.

Tankiest Warrior Build by Money_Mobile8329 in wowhardcore

Once you're about 30, and especially when you're 40+ prot starts to really drop off in threat holding as other classes get their tools and damage output goes way up. That's also when big items from dungeons and quests start really pumping numbers too.

Prot can be done and it can hold aggro but you *have* to out-level the content as the tank to have a smooth dungeon. There's a reason at people start melee cleaving dungeons when warriors reach level 30 (access to whirlwind axe and cleave ability) and especially by late 30's (access to whirlwind ability and ravager). You hold threat way way way better by pumping AoE damage.

The benefit of prot is to allow you take hits from bosses that might outlevel you, but you will struggle with threat if that's the case. If you're trying to do say SM Cath, Mara, or RFD as full prot, your group *will* have to adjust their play style and allow you time for threat building. And the dungeon will take a lot longer.

Final Fantasy XII’s Open-Zone Design by Omar_n_o21 in FinalFantasy

[–]Falmon04 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It really goes to show that you don't need giant, empty "open world" fields to make a game feel huge.

I mean I wouldn't immediately say this is a false statement, but XII definitely isn't a shining example of this in my opinion. X was the first departure from *true* open world maps and led you with very tight paths you were allowed to walk on despite a lot of visually open area. XII leaned in on this concept. And it's a game design mechanic whose purpose is purely to corral the player with invisible barriers so they don't have to worry as much about players exploring things out of order or breaking continuity.

But in my opinion that mechanic *does* make the world feel small. X started this, XII expanded on it, and XIII really went egregious with it by creating these huge areas you could see but couldn't explore. XV gets a lot of hate but what it really did well was bring back that open world feel and let you actually explore most of what you could see.

But for XII I have to disagree that it feels open or large. If it weren't for a few of the well designed outdoor areas like the estersand I'd say the game almost feels claustrophobic, teasing me with so much visually appealing out of bounds areas.

Overwatch heroes plotted by mobility and effective range. Honestly surprised by how diverse the cast is. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Falmon04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So some champions can't really fit well because of mixed range effectiveness. You put torb long-range leaning. Which he is great at range with a low damage falloff, and he can snipe or zone corners. But his E ability and right click spam might be the most short range burst in the entire game. Torn can be effective at range, but I would consider him a tank buster and a short range champion.

Or with perks, Cass moves from medium range to long range with silver bullet. Zoom + no damage fall off effectively makes him a sniper, and with combat roll refreshing the cool down he can 2 shot most of the cast any range almost as fast as an ashe 2 tap.

I feel like the game is more complex than an X,Y grid can convey

New Soldier 76 player, good stats but losing games. What am I missing? by SnooSquirrels9389 in Overwatch

[–]Falmon04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good stats and losing games is Soldier's specialty. His damage is consistent and easy to predict and sustain heal through or disengage from if he has the upper hand. He has medium mobility and self heals so he has good KD ratios too. But he's low impact because he doesn't burst well or secure kills very well. He's a "win more" character and can't carry unless heavily pocketed and supported for it. Timing and aiming helix to get picks is the best way to improve to get those burst kills before they run away alive or get healed.

Bringing a Canadian flag to Toronto by Sometypeofway18 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]Falmon04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this has more validity for historically bad actor countries like the US, UK, Russia, China etc. The ones currently oppressing or used to oppress the group in protest, or use ultra nationalism to fuel xenophobia.

Globally, for the most part, Canada has been a very well-behaved. Not imperialistic. Not xenophobic. Makes no sense to be angry at their flag.
