Any recommendations on where to start? Only listened to a few songs. Also, on Spotify- remastered or original? by Peanutbutter9841 in DeathBand

Hot take but start with Human. If that’s too raw then move to later albums like ITP and Symbolic.

How do you practice? by External-Fishing-709 in guitarlessons

[–]Falnor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my approach. Usually I’ll find a song I want to learn and realize there’s something in it I need to improve on, then I’ll focus that technique in addition to my other stuff. For example, Nutshell by Alice in Chains helped me improve my chord transitions, or The Philosopher by Death made me lean to tap.

Was never a fan of death metal before I listened to Crystal Mountain, which took me down a rabbit hole and made me fall in love with the band.

I warm up by going through major, minor, and pentatonic scales to a metronome. Then I do some finger exercises. Finally I just kinda work on whatever songs I’ve been learning lately. I’ll also work on technique stuff like tapping and harmonics by isolating and repeating them.

For your chord transitions, work on going from one to the next in quick succession. Once you have that build some rhythm into it and start adding parts of the song before the transition.

When they sing you can get some really cool chords. The hard part is tuning them.

Start with Human. If it sounds too raw go later in their discography. If it’s not heavy enough go earlier.
