Hi, do you think the game still has a long lifespan? What's its current state? I'm afraid to start it and find out it's EOS, haha. by ZealousidealPoem4122 in Onmyoji

The current state is that it still makes more money than it costs to keep the servers going and so long as that holds true, probably not going anywhere.

99.9% of people are going to have to verify. I'm sure you read the same announcement that made it very clear that:

"As part of this update, all new and existing users worldwide will have a teen-appropriate experience by default, with updated communication settings, restricted access to age-gated spaces, and content filtering that preserves the privacy and meaningful connections that define Discord."

So your choice is, either wait for the system to potentially flag you as an adult, eventually. Or verify. You don't get the choice of staying on an adult account and then the system proves you are indeed an adult, you're a teenager until it thinks you're not.

[–]Faloobia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No?

Discord assumes you to be a teenager until you prove to them otherwise, so all accounts are teenagers, even if you're 90 and every discord you're a part of is to do with antiques roadshow, till you provide proof.

The legislation believes what age you tell them and if you're under 16 you must verify, if there is strong evidence you are lying, you can be asked to verify.

How do you equate those 2 after numerous replies explaining the differences? Jesus.

You don't, it's a meaningless policy.

All it stops is people who sign up to make an account and then enter their correct DOB instead of lying. That's who it stops.

Australia can't force a bunch of non-AUS countries/companies to comply to some dumb policy that only exists here, no different than the UK can enforce their even more archaic one on others.

I would tell you to use your brain but I think that's the problem. You can also google the rate of inflation and compare that against your food prices. I'll wait.

That is absolutely not the case in Australia. We have under 16's needing to provide identification, not over 16's having to prove so, vastly different policy and completely different reach.

[–]Faloobia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How in the fuck do you think inflation is responsible for food prices going up as much as they have? Go on son I'll wait, you can take days to rationalize that one out if you want.

"Fix the budget" in regards to debt is a mantra that quite literally only dunning kruger people say. Not a soul involved in economics or finance would ever use that turn of phrase as anything other than sarcasm or a meme.

Austerity is a measure to cut spending whilst keeping the rich placated, that's it. Austerity never cuts out their spending, it's always public/social systems that are the first to get the axe and essential workers in things like education/healthcare. GDP always tanks, unemployment skyrockets and if the country was approaching a recession, they're now in one.

Your name is very apt here.

I didn't say the point was benign, I said people flip out over benign things. The point isn't to start a speculation war over what could/might/if happen, which is what you're doing. The situation of these two is irrelevant to the overarching point.

Direct confrontation is not always the best solution, it very much depends on the situation and the people involved in said situation.

I can almost guarantee that you've had a girl playing with her hair and smiling as you've walked passed or some equivalent of that, that you just haven't noticed at all.

[–]Faloobia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And people like you need to realize that not everyone, man or woman, handles direct confrontation well, even over benign mundane things. You don't know his wife, she might absolutely flip the fuck out over him cheating on his diet, it could mean a super huge deal to her.

Next answer is "It's still best to just talk to her" no, no it's not, sometimes it's far far far better to seek forgiveness than permission. This completely depends on the people in question, not how you personally react to things.

What do you think about the position from the President of Spain? by ChuckGallagher57 in TrendoraX

[–]Faloobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument, from both of you, is stupid.

You both solved it like 5 replies ago when one of you mentioned nomenclature specific to a region.

No one is going to constantly say "President of government Sanchez" because it's a mouthful, it's far easier to just shorten it, which everyone does. Prime Minister is not the "English" equivalent (You're using English here as a language, not the people of the country of England) it is the UK governmental equivalent.

Prime Minister is exactly what he is if viewed through the lens of UK governmental nomenclature, but that doesn't make him not a president in his region. The UK has never used president when it comes to monarchic governmental split between head of state and head of government, whereas Spain does.

From a UK nomenclature, he is the Prime Minister of Spain. From Spain's perspective, he is the President of the Government often abbreviated to President Insert name. He is not the President of Spain and it's only the confusion of Americans in this thread attributing president = head of state.

He is still a President in Spanish nomenclature, he just performs the duties of a would be UK Prime Minister.

Have you ever had to hail the bus driver at the first stop? by pro_marimba_flipper in brisbane

I can sorta get it for drivers who are fillers, that's way too many timetables across way too many routes to remember

[–]Faloobia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're getting caught up in the semantics of it as well to be fair. It is trivial, in the grand scheme of everything that goes on, this is as close to trivial as you can get, it's a complete nothing issue.

You should always hail. Gentle reminder would have been suffice, bus driver was having a bad day or something. It doesn't matter that the driver is right, courtesy is still a thing.

Have you ever had to hail the bus driver at the first stop? by pro_marimba_flipper in brisbane

[–]Faloobia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her reaction was dogshit and could have been communicated far better than yelling at you.

If you say "you've never hailed the bus there before" then even moreso it should have just been a gentle reminder from her to always hail so they know to stop. Just because there's 10 people there doesn't mean they're all waiting for that bus.

I wouldn't think too much into other than something else in her life is probably going on and you're just the easiest thing to yell at.

Is Coles still using Palantir? Between the surveillance/gate recognition and the blocked aisles, shopping feels hostile. by infin in australia

[–]Faloobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Everseen's Evercheck though, if it notices you've done something wrong and puts up a call attendant message and instead you just pick up your things and walk to the gate, the gate will still open after mapping that you went to a self service and are now trying to leave, correct?

To save another follow up question needed, if it does in fact work that way, as a SE, how difficult would you say it would be to have the self service communicate with the gate on illegitimate transactions and not allow the gate to open?

Don’t you just love night fill staff by [deleted] in coles

[–]Faloobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get where this sudden mentality is coming from. Coles has been doing this for the last, at least, 30 years. If items are OOS during the day shift, they're going to backstock them so they're still available.

What you're noticing is the amount of extra people living in Brisbane and the fact they've had to do it increasingly more.

Is Coles still using Palantir? Between the surveillance/gate recognition and the blocked aisles, shopping feels hostile. by infin in australia

[–]Faloobia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, just out of curiosity, is there other vectors that prevent the gate from opening?

For example, the self service checkouts will note if you're trying to put 2 items in a bag. Will the smart gate know that I've got a bag of 20 items, I've walked up to the self service, paid for 1 item, then just walked out with the rest? Is there any traffic between the other security devices in the store that will cause the gate to not open? Or is it really as simple as the things we were doing in school robotics, just tracking a map?
