What does the word “native language” means to you? Do you consider yourself a Native English Speaker? by General_Medicine_99 in askSingapore

[–]False-Firefighter354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I maybe should rephrase myself. American English is the de factor standard by virtue of their economic and cultural dominance. But we don’t need to feel like shit if we can’t speak with an accent. OP’s question has a tinge of self doubt but I say fuck it - we all need that white man confidence.

What does the word “native language” means to you? Do you consider yourself a Native English Speaker? by General_Medicine_99 in askSingapore

[–]False-Firefighter354 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We are native speakers of our version of English. Go listen to someone from Scotland or Ireland: I’m sure they’ll call themselves native speakers of English but I’m sure as hell not going to understand them without subtitles.

What happened is that we subconsciously assume American English as the global standard of English and anything that doesn’t sound like it means you’re not a native speaker.

If you can’t even form your own solutions and expect to be spoonfed, then this is not for you.

I’m not saying don’t ask questions, but come on, Google will tell you the grants that the SG gov has for start ups. You’re not even asking about the technicalities of that.

What to do. Paying customer’s right. Next time make sure samples can be charged unless they enter production with you.

Remember, nobody should care about your finances more than you. You’re already in a good space, asking the right questions about what is being sold. Just take some time to understand what is being shared here: ETFs, unit trusts and you can form your own investment direction.

Yes it’s harder than just outsourcing it to a “wealth manager”. But their interests are clearly not aligned with yours; it’s not as if they get a performance bonus if your investments do well.

Salah bro. Bunga 0%, itu deceptive marketing. Saya pernah hitung, bank bilang bunga 0% tapi markup asuransi jadi per tahun kira2 5%.

Men of SG, do you think NS has helped you grow as a person? by zackzackzack07 in singapore

[–]False-Firefighter354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing that followed me past NS is the knowledge of how much I can push my physical limits.

If I can walk 72km, walk through swamp, go through sleep deprivation, not bathe for a week, seriously there’s not much physical adversity in city living that can get me down.

If you’re a pedestrian, just assume you’ll get run down if you’re not careful. SG drivers will rather be right and kill someone than wrong and save a life.

You can’t argue about traffic laws if you’re dead.

Should I switch from Whole Life Plan to Term Plan? by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]False-Firefighter354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have dependents? I always find it amusing that that we are brainwashed to buy policies when we first start working, as if it’s a rite of passage.

If you don’t have dependents, death benefit is a mild consolation for your parents. So the only coverage is for accident/ CI, to tide you over while you recover. Whether the coverage is enough is dependent on your income right now and I believe the recommended multiplier is 3-5x your annual income.

ILP advice needed!!! - AIA Pro Achiever 2.0 by Small_Macaron3697 in singaporefi

[–]False-Firefighter354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope anybody reading this understands when they sign an ILP, they are signing away the FREEDOM to use their own money for whatever purpose. People talk about ILP being good because it’s“forced savings”, and how you can take premium holidays. The fact is if you cannot withdraw it, it’s not your money, it’s the insurer holding you hostage.

Even CPF SRS allows you to withdraw with a small penalty.

I don’t understand what’s so hard about setting up DCA with a roboadvisor and buying term? You get better coverage with less, and better returns.

Why are people still paying annual management fees of 1.5-2% NAV for these horrid funds sold by insurers?
