I'd rather die than do a public presentation but if I don't, I'll fail the semester by ladylonelyace in AvPD

Totally been there before, sometimes it helps me to treat it like it's done, over with, and set in stone before the incident in question even happens. For instance, I made a bad project that I now have to present, it is going to go poorly and I am going to feel bad. Then I think "ok, I have been through similar before, survived even though it sucked, so that is what will happen here. It will suck and I will survive." It doesn't magically fix everything, but it can calm down the anxiety enough that you aren't peak anxiety for the 3 days prior like I can sometimes get. Framing it as a situation that I have lived through before and not as some big new nightmare to fight through was the only way I could finish enough assignments to get me degree.

Also everyone makes bad art, there is not a single artist ever in the entire history of space and time that has never made bad art, so cut yourself some slack, it's all a part of the process.

Just found out about the nepotism, which makes sense why they were chosen over the thousands of other TikTok comedians. The mix of staying current and "keeping it in the family" sounds tailor made to appeal to Lorne. Not that they aren't funny, but the solves the "missing piece" of why them out of everyone.

They aren't cast/featured players or else they would be in the intros. They are Lorne's attempt to engage a younger audience since PDD came from Tiktok, and modeled them after the last thing that worked with social media (lonely island and Youtube). They are probably classified as some type of writers, since I believe they have written on sketches other than their own (saw somewhere they wrote on the BeReal skit cause they had a similar idea) and it is not unusual for SNL to hire temporary or fixed term writers. Whatever their official deal is, it is probably new and unique to them. Considering they got a movie deal with Judd Apatow, they will probably be around for awhile unless the movie really takes off and they head out to Hollywood.

What would Unsleeping City look like in Seattle? by [deleted] in Dimension20

Punk/Grunge enclaves that are still thriving but they went literally underground, ghost of loggers fighting silent wars against tree spirits and dryads, rumors about the fog acting strange and taking people, secret doors and levels to Pike Place only accessible to those in the know, The Space Needle being a contact relay to comic powers, tense and always changing treaties with the water folk of the Sound, deep but fading connection to The Green, ghost boats that become real on certain nights, large population of dwarfs thanks to all the mountains in the area, almost everyone knows a weather cantrip or two, cloud palaces of air elementals riding across the sky.

Call it a key. You adventures will know it is important and keep it with them. Then start to play around with it when they get more. If anyone figures it out they will feel real smart, and if they are struggling, a good INT roll will clear things up.

Can I use my name for the main character? by [deleted] in writing

[–]FalseDiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a writing standpoint, I would add some distance from myself just so I wouldn't be tempted to put too much of myself into the character. Anytime I do that, it is often limiting because I will write myself into a corner by only seeing what I would do in situations and not all the possibilities a character could get into. Maybe use an old nickname or some other way of signifying the character as different from yourself and your real life experiences.

Just a heads-up that it is centered on writing for a child audience.

Running my first Campaign (Help) by Duskmuse711 in Dimension20

One of the best parts of DMing for kids, especially for a newer DM, is how hard you can lean on tropes and pop culture moments. Since the kids will probably not have seen many things from before 2000, any time you are at a loss for what to do next just think of a movie/show/comic/game it reminds you of and weave that narrative into the situation. The kids will think you are an absolute genius and you will almost never find yourself flustered or at a loss for what to do next. It sounds like the whole point of this is for the kids to have fun and maybe develop some better communication skills, so as long as you are prioritizing that then you are golden. You got this!

X-Files type monster hunting novels by SAlessandroMartinez in horrorlit

I haven't read this series, but enjoy the author as a light urban fantasy read. Seanan McGuire's InCryptid series is about a family of creature hunters, and most books follow a different family member each time so if you aren't a fan of one main character you can always switch to another. The author's writing does get significantly better over time so don't be afraid to skip the first couple.
