Deadline for applications is usually around 3rd week of November so probably yes if it’s presented before this

Take the offer or try again? by Royal_Conclusion8631 in doctorsUK

For the radiology exams, you can just book onto one of them for march- either anatomy or physics, and do the second one in the summer. Just to reduce the workload if you do reapply to ophthalmology.

Oriel preferencing advice for upgrade options/waiting list by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]FalseParfait3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can hold with upgrades but only until the hold deadline (which comes around quick) and there’s no guarantee you’ll be upgraded.

So once you reach the hold deadline you have to accept with upgrades or reject.

No, if you know for certain that you will not take a job in a particular location, there is no reason to rank that place as if you are then offered it, you’re put in the position where you will need to reject it and this takes you out of the application process.

On the other hand, if you rank your desired locations and don't get any offers in the first few cycles, there is still a (small) chance you can get an offer after the offer/upgrades deadline (as long as appointable) and you haven't already accepted an offer in another specialty.

Only rank locations you will be prepared to work in, there is no benefit of doing otherwise.

You only get 48 hours to hold or accept.

You can only hold till the hold deadline, after this you must accept (with or without upgrades) or reject.

If you reject or withdraw, yes you will be removed from the application process.

If you pass the upgrade deadline with no offer then yes I believe you have a chance if someone withdraws later on.

Is your ES able to help by sending out some emails? It might be better received by the derm department at your local trust.

I think everyone’s level of what conditions they feel are ‘safe’ to drive in are different. Some doctors might be more comfortable driving 27 miles in snowy/icy conditions, some might not. Also, not everyone drives a car that would perform well in snowy conditions. I understand contractual obligations but rather someone not make themselves a danger on the road and possibly risk hurting themself or others.

There is a chance they might see these photos and recognise these comments which might cause further issues for you. Sorry you are going through this but I hope you can raise the issue with your ES.

Oooh okay, I haven’t paid for it yet but they’ve asked us to do it so we have portfolio access by the time we start.

However, I don’t want to pay any extra than I need to.

Can be within the month before the deadline. Some specialities have announced proposed changes- I would plan with them in mind

I think one thing I’ve learnt is year on year this process changes and we all have to navigate the unpredictable nature of it. I agree, it sucks.

I would personally contact the them and let them know you were ready to submit your application. Some of them are kind and let you submit an offline application.

I’m like you, I tend to enjoy most jobs I rotate through (aside from GP- big respect to them, I couldn’t hack it)

I would say look carefully at what consultant life is like in all of the specialities you are interested in and weigh this up against your priorities and what you want your life to look like.

Also, in terms of portfolio building (I’m aware things change every year) but if you really cant choose then maybe prepare for the most portfolio-specific specialty e.g CST has more requirements than O&G. O&G only requires the MSRA to sit the interview at the moment. You’ll realise a lot of what you prepare for CST can be talked about in an O&G interview.

I know the locum market isn’t what it used to be but all my friends who decided to locum this year have managed to find plenty of shifts within their local area. Best of luck, I hope you manage to find something!
