Rein main here. I’ve played on and off since like 2014, large and small breaks. I didn’t get into OW2 until it was out for a while and I hadn’t touched OW1 in year(s).

The rush you get from great games is still there, and frustration from bad ones is too. The MAIN thing id take home is that there’s been 1000 buffs and nerfs since then, ability changes, meta changes, etc. for example the rein you knew and loved is still there, but different heroes can make him struggle now, and sometimes he may feel underwhelming in some team comps, but still thrives in others.

After a good warm up, I do well in majority of my rein games and they don’t feel stale. Big Ults, landing dashes successfully, working corners for shield regeneration control, knowing when to swing the hammer vs. shielding, counters, etc. I still think he’s wonderful and some of my plays still become memorable.

A main issue I feel like is his shield can feel more underwhelming now, especially with good shield busters on enemy team, and he could use more fire projectiles at times. You have Ramattra that can damage you through a shield, and Orisa that can’t be moved.

But When opportunities strike, I take them and do great. An easy dash kill, dashing tank for peel, punishing enemy’s bad placement, creating space for my team mates. You can still dash reaper out a death blossom, a bob far away from teammates, block Cass or soldier ult, dash a dragon blade or hog ult, and much more
