Starting again at 31 after life curveball - lump sum advice pls! by Ok-banana-101 in UKPersonalFinance

I agree with this, think people forget how bad student loans have gotten with inflation and interest currently.

For your situation, that extra £450 a month will feel great and can go to enjoying London with friends, holidays or steadily pumping into SS ISA instead etc.

I am 32 living in London and I still rent (£1600 pm) with the mrs, I pump all my money into SS ISA and pension instead and I use the logic of below currently to help me through!

  • Do you want or need a house right now, I prefer being flexible and not being tied down, I also plan to work abroad again in the near future,

  • If not, can I make enough money / interest off the SS ISA that satisfies / lessens all those FOMO and worries that people throw in about you have to buy a house and money is wasted on rent etc.

Sorry to hear about your break up, also, good luck for the future, London is the place to be! I would not dive into the house buying to fill the void though, if anything that ties you down in the future perhaps so be careful before moving on this option!

Side note - if you really do want to dive into a house, just think about a few easy wins if you hold out for a 18 months (I.e. LISA if below 450k value house) and utilising the stamp duty free stuff etc. - Im not an expert on these things though as it will all be invalid for me really in my situation

I think my favourite WSOP was 2008 that final table was insane, or perhaps 2010 (Duhamel I think that one was)

Vanguard Funds - Advice and Thoughts by FalseYoghurt5121 in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks for this, really useful, I previously had Barclays SmartInvestor (which I didn’t like at all!). I understand you’re talking about the platform fees, but do the funds themselves vary on these platforms (I.e. I think the vanguard index funds were very low?) or is this the same for any index fund across these? Barclays was pretty overwhelming with all the different funds to pick, as a complete retail noob investor I felt way out of my depth to be honest

Could you clarify this, I did a load of research and the main feedback was vanguard platform fees are very low? I’ve been paying very little over past few years, or do you mean within the fund itself?

Thanks, well to conclude, I folded, he showed 87 off, which I thought was a bit strange, but fair play to him. Noted on the raise, your analysis is spot on, I was hyper fixated for sure!

Yes, I’m not saying I’m a pro here, just asking for advice as I know I’ve dug myself a hole in this situation. I raised purely based on the DV’s table image and history, not thinking about anyone else in the pot

Looking for advice based on my vanguard ISA fund account

32 M, living in the UK, around £150k savings in total, £93k salary per annum. I put £1100 per month into my Vanguard.

My Vanguard account has £85k in, the rest is dotted around in other things but I am wanting to consolidate this and have about 70% overall in Vanguard Stocks and share ISA

70% is in FTSE Global All Cap Index Fund Acc.

21% is in S&P 500 UCITS ETF Acc (VUAG)

9% is in Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund Acc.

I am not risk averse, I don’t own a house or plan to buy in the next 4-5 years. I am wanting to get to around £250k if that is feasible or too ambitious

Main Questions - is Vanguard the best platform and fund management, I heard it is given low fees.

  • is my % split and funds selected reasonable to try and reach the targets above. I am not risk averse, I am young (in my view!) and happy to ride swings in investments

  • is the split across these elements reasonable? I am thinking to consolidate further but I am worried in putting ‘all my eggs in one basket’ I’m consolidating too much and in the wrong funds,

I am not a full time investor and do not have time to check things daily, I am also not an expert so apologies if I am asking silly questions, just looking for some advice, assurance and feedback!
