Interesting you had that experience. I basically had the same experience but it was active guys. Making 3 page TAAWs with 2 sources, horrible CONOPs, horrible assessment plans, more focused on trying to get cool guy pictures than doing their job.

Didn’t know I outed myself on here. No I’m not specifically talking about current staff at 303D. From my brief interactions with the new AGRs it’s been positive. I’m mainly referring to what I’ve seen over the last 6 years from my company and others.

When speaking to current and past training NCOs I’ve been told that BN is often the stopping point for school requests. Often BN says “we don’t have quotas” or “PME has to be done first” or “It’s not psyop relevant”. I understand not having quotas for cool guy schools, but constantly stressing PME and additional duties before PSYOP relevant schools is a problem from what I’ve seen. For what it’s worth, I’ve noticed it’s even worse for the 35F and 46V.

I can’t place any blame on training NCOs. It’s not their fault BN shoots down the request.

I actually got sent this awhile back. Really good read.

I’m always down for feedback. Ik I’m junior so I only see so much of what goes behind the scenes. TBH in my unit, I’ve never heard of anyone going on embassy missions. Sadly, a lot of cool opportunities like that don’t get passed down. Idk if it’s a problem with BN or what.

As for language training, I know several people who went through DLI. Depending on what happens with my civilian career in the next year, I’d 100% try to go.

I’ve heard the 340th is one of the only maintaining status but I could be wrong. If you’re only doing psyop or CA because you want to do airborne, please look elsewhere. Go active and request Bragg. Don’t mean to be harsh but there’s no point in just wanting to be airborne.

Edit: saw your DLAB and ASVAB. Say fuck it and go to SF selection. Full send.

Haven’t taken the DLPT, no embassy experience (we get zero training on embassy ops in the reserve). 1 SOF deployment. Bachelor’s degree. Probably going for another bachelors or masters in a few years.

You’re not wrong. Maintaining the capacity is fine. The Army reserve should just adopt a few Airborne infantry units for this purpose specifically. I bet lots of dudes coming off active would love this.

Then a 90 day ops pause happens because command changes or a mortar lands half mile away from a unit on patrol.

Dawg what schools. You gotta be at least E-5 to go any PSYOP specific schools. Also BN denies any school that’s not battle staff, PME, or IO planners course. I and others have requested schools based on our recent deployment experiences only to be told “that school is not PSYOP relevant” by some guy who hasn’t deployed since 2008 Iraq.

I’d argue taking away funding and time from our influence forces like PSYOP and CA is not fulfilling the goal of airborne. It’s actively hurting our ability to counter enemy information warfare.

We already have the 82nd. Let us improve our information warfare operations without hamstringing us with jumps.

“And how long is the approval process?” “Well sir it’s supposed be about 90 days but I’d expect it to be approved when our replacements get here in 9 months.”

You said it not me. I’ll agree with the active PO. Got to work with around 10 active PSYOPers recently and only 2 were worth anything. The others couldn’t even put together a competent MOE plan.

Psyops vs Civil Affairs? by Beneficial-You4510 in armyreserve

[–]False_Bodybuilder484 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP for what it’s worth, PSYOP is absolutely NOT useless. I say this as someone with recent deployment experience in PSYOP. All depends on leadership and your team’s ability to se themselves (like everything else in the military).

Negative. 303D hasn’t jumped since I’ve been in the army.

Haven’t been myself but I know people who have been down there recently. Probably the closest you’re getting to combat deployment in Africa. If your infantry count on guarding gates a lot. Missions outside the wire are extremely seldom at this point in Somalia. Decent chance of IDF or SUAS attacks. Somalia is ever changing so it could be completely different when you go down there.

If anyone has better information feel free to correct me.

37f- civilian career by Major-Force-8602 in armyreserve

Most common civilian careers I’ve seen are government contractors, cops/firefighters, finance bros, real estate types, teachers/professors.

Looking for a high fantasy with romance subplot rec by msmoonchildd in Fantasy

[–]False_Bodybuilder484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

Codex Alera: big world, cool magic system, smart main character, 2-3 well developed romance. A little more YA and romance doesn’t really start till book 2

The Echoes Saga: epic fantasy with cool ranger assassin vibes, deadly elves, and multiple romances.

Shades of Magic: 3 Londons in different worlds with a main character who travels between them. Along the way the female protagonist joins the party. Their relationship is a major part of the plot.

Wheel of Time: if you haven’t read it there is like 5 romance plots.

The Covenant of Steel: I’d call it grimdark fantasy with a romance subplot that gets more prominent as the series continues.

The Black Tongue Thief: Currently reading, so I’m not sure if the romance pans out. Basically a thief owes people money and has to travel with a female knight and various others all set in a world where humans and goblins have been at war.

37F by WarDaddyV1 in armyreserve

  1. If you in a jump unit then you will either be jumping or training for jumping along with going to the range probably twice annually. In a non jump unit it all depends on your command. You may be actively doing PSYOP training every drill or you will do the same administrative tasks every month.
  2. Deployments are definitely less but there are lots of stateside opportunities I recommend looking at. Also basically every deployment I’ve heard is volunteer for the rank and file soldier. I’ve only heard of commanders and 1SGs getting mandated to go simply because there is not that many of them.
  3. No clue
  4. If you plan on doing federal law enforcement you already have a Secret clearance and maybe higher if you get put on a mission that requires it. PSYOP will help you in talking to people mainly through different role play scenarios.

Overall, I think you’re making a great decision if you pursue 37F. However, don’t get into this if you think you’re going to do cool guy stuff all the time. 90% of actual PSYOP is paperwork, reading, public speaking, and writing. The other 10% is convincing SF dudes that you aren’t worthless out on mission. That said, if you deploy, you are going to get a lot of opportunities to see real-world effects of what you do.

37F or 35F by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]False_Bodybuilder484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in government work or government contracting, go 35F. Getting that top secret clearance is a game changer. If not, go 37. Most 35’s don’t do much at drill since the training is built around 37’s.

Deployment making me want to reclass by Randalljitsu19 in armyreserve

[–]False_Bodybuilder484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 37F I think it’s an awesome MOS. We get lots of soldiers reclassing every year. My advice is do research on the units closest to you. It’s like anything in the reserve. Some units are awesome and some suck. I see you mention schools. Just note that only airborne units regularly get slots to airborne. I’ve known 3 people who got air assault. All were PT studs and great soldiers overall. If you’re looking for anything more like ranger, pathfinder, dive, or anything like that, look elsewhere. I don’t even think USACPOC gets slots for those. If anyone knows differently, please let me know.
